I haven't spoken to him in 3-4 years (I'm turning 28). The incident that sparked it was actually because of my sister, who is likely borderline. In her defense, she spent two years basically immobile from an organ transplant / recovering / affects from before, and had the same shitty upbringing I had. I was visiting home where he lives with my sister (mom had passed but divorced my dad a few years before). And I was in the living room reading, when my dad started screaming at my sister. Hysteric…

This book looks really interesting. Looks like it's a tough read from amazon reviews (and the kindle edition is $200? wtf.). What kind of insight does it give? How hard is it to get through?

Honestly, I wouldn't finish it. Took me forever and it wasn't that enjoyable, and was extremely repetitive; being aware of the philosophy, characters, and plot is a good thing though since references do show up a lot and there is something to the philosophy. Maybe reading wikipedia or spark notes would be more efficient?

This is basically the point of So Good They Can't Ignore you. An MIT Comp Sci PhD researched and interviewed a bunch of folks to figure out how people have a good career. His conclusion was to get really good at something, and you will become passionate about it (he actually calls "following your passion" a trap). edit: fixed link

Check out Borgias (the Netflix / European version not the showtime version). It's about a Renaissance family vying for power in the papal states - the main protagonists, Rodrigo Borgia (or Pope Alexander VI) and his son Cesare are some of the people Machiavelli (who is a character in the show) wrote about.

congrats bro. but word of advice on the programming interviews. literally all they care about is how well you answer the questions. as someone whose been on both sides of the table - many of the people doing the ebaluating are neckbeards so maybe this shit has a subconscious effect but youre evaluated on how well you answer the questions check out: http://www.amazon.com/Cracking-Coding-Interview-Programming-Questions/dp/098478280X. fwiw: i'm talking about the elite places like google, facebook, …

Curious - why do you suggest moving around? And what kind of an impact does being so mobile and having a business have on your career? Working at a great big company (e.g. Google) likely wouldn't allow for that. So doesn't it eliminates that option as a career path? Also, doesnt' it mean you have to re-establish your connections and network and support system each time? Seems very difficult. Genuinely curious, thanks.

TR did live a life of priveledge that undoubtedly helped him but he was a badass / Man in the Arena: He was born with extreme asthma and they didn't think he'd live long. Doctors told him to stay in bed. In response, he started lifting, boxing, and being perpetually in action. Despite being undersized, he was the #2 boxer at Harvard. Losing to the #1 by getting the shit beat out of him. He'd do similar feats of ridiculous toughness like skinny dipping in an ice pond during the winter (and bringi…

congrats on making the decision. Also 5'8" and just finished a long cut at about 1500 cals/wk. I'm guessing I got down to 13 or 14% and decided to bulk during the winter. Here are things I learned slowly over time that helped a lot. Chew sugarless gum a lot (I like trident layers) Coffee is great for hunger suppression (I learned to like black). Track stuff in myfitnesspal.com Do intermittent fasting - skip breakfast. Chew gum and coffee in the AM. Apparently it's good at burning fat but it also…

Thanks this is really reassuring to hear. I can bang <= 6s with relative ease but it's difficult to get myself to do it because I'm just not into them. Have trouble with 7s and above. It's been tough because I consistently hooked up with hotter girls in college and it really feels like I'm the scourge of society being a young guy in nyc. I'm 27 and actually making about 150k a year. I have a software consulting business, but it seems like that doesn't impress the ladies here. Even my bud who's m…

I've lived in NYC for the past 4 years (since graduating college). Despite the number of things going for men (ratio, vanity, 'liberated' women mindset, hookup culture), I've found getting quality women to be very difficult. I think it's because even though the ratio is in men's favor, any given woman still has way more suitors / attention than she'd have in another city - there are simply too many people. It's exhausting to keep up. I may have to move to SF so I'm hoping being a big fish in a l…
