This has to be sarcasm....but I'm having trouble being certain. It's kind of a Poe's law situation.

Some women freak out after moving too fast. Sleeping on a first date carries social stigma and many women find it emotionally confusing.

I totally agree. But you don't need to do it on the first night you meet someone. And that seems to be the goal of many folks giving advice here.

This subreddit is driven by a lot of guys who are focused on sex and not love. That means a lot of the advice here is of limited value to the many young visitors here who are just trying to learn to be successful at dating. As someone whose goal was always to fall in love and find a good relationship, a lot of the PUA advice seems laughable to me. But some of it would have been useful back in my short-term relationship and dating days. I hope everyone realizes that the whole PUA thing is built f…

Online dating. You will get a huge amount of interest from many men, all of whom have seen photos of you and are for sure interested in your looks. Just make sure you have photos of your body and face from multiple angles, you don't want to waste time with any false positives. The problem you have (as someone with mediocre appearance) is that most men are notoriously finicky about what they find visually attractive (unless you are talking about women who look like models and porn stars). One man…

My first post was an attempt at "tough love." There were a lot of other posts saying this is just how humans are, we want what we can't have, but I think that's a cop-out. My second post was in response to some anonymous person calling me an asshole. He/she picked a fight and I responded.

Unlike you, I'm not a kid. Swearing is childish. Even on the internet. Actually, especially on the internet.
/r/seduction17/02/13 04:37 AM

Because you are kid. Kids want what they can't have. When you get older, more mature, and start dating "women", not "girls", this will (hopefully) change. It will also change for the women you date. Women who are experienced and looking for serious relationships take a whole different approach on the dating thing.

This is a much more useful post than what often gets put here. This is how a normal guy with a sense of humor can be successful dating. It doesn't matter if you are just trying to get laid or meet someone for a relationship (and really, why can't you be doing both?). However, I am going to guess OP lives on the East Coast, where there is a disproportionate amount of single women. Which makes it much easier to meet women in the first place.

Online dating is a great filter mechanism if you are looking for a medium- or long-term relationship. It helps you ignore the many thousands of women that you would waste your time with if you spoke to them based purely on their looks. So you can focus on women who are actually a potentially good match. That said, it's a lot of work. Especially if you are average or below-average looking. I would recommend it for 'older' people (as in, 27 and up) who have some idea what they are really looking f…

Yes. Looks actually are more important in online dating. But it's a great tool for dating and finding relationships if you're average or above-average looking.

Focus on being a fun, healthy, motivated person. Try to build your social network. Don't worry about dating right now unless it falls into your lap. Highschool is not a great place for dating if you feel socially awkward. It will be much easier once you graduate.

I have three answers to your very legitimate math question. 1) It is an open-secret that many self-proclaimed PUAs are not nearly as successful as they claim. This is a place for many guys to learn to date, and their vision of "success" (e.g. sleeping with several new women each week) is unrealistic and is not really the goal of guys who could do it if they wanted. 2) Some PUAs fall into the rare category of men who do not want a serious relationship. They date women and have one-night-stands an…

Friends are just as important as women when it comes to coping with loneliness. And so long as you approach friendships and female relationships in a purely tactical manner, you are likely to feel hollow and lonely. An important part of connecting with people emotionally is letting your guard down. And people will eventually pick up on your tactical nature. I would suggest training yourself to be more sensitive and touchy-feely. You need human social connection just as much as the rest of us. St…

I think you have a bigger problem: You seem to have trouble forming friendships right now. First start with making friends and expanding your social network, then you can ease into looking for a girlfriend. If you make friends with a bunch of people, male and female, they will actively help you to find a girlfriend. And that is way more useful than a good wingman. Seriously. The key is to be open an unashamed about the fact that you haven't had a girlfriend in a very long time. Own it. Don't fee…

What's interesting is that there are currently 1,200 upvotes and 400 downvotes for this post. So it has an overwhelmingly positive response from readers. But all the upvoted commenters are attacking the post. My conclusion: The majority of MensRights readers agree with the post, but the majority of the most vocal and active users disagree with the post (and probably embody the exact problems and criticisms pointed out by the OP).

First, why are you trying to hit on girls when other guys are around? That's gonna be messy. Definitely doable, but not generally something to be sought out. As for parties, if you're hitting it off with a girl and another guy comes out of nowhere and tries to interrupt the conversation, just go ahead and give him your attention. Ask him all about himself. Tell him what you were talking about and ask him his opinion. He wants to talk to you, because he just joined your conversation, so engage hi…

Sorry you disagree. But when it comes to dating and flirting, there simply are not bright line rules. Especially with smart, self-confident women who are experienced in relationships. Flirting is like having a conversation. As an analogy, saying, "avoid talking about politics and religion" might be a safe bet for people who are shy, but for experienced conversationalists those topics are regularly voiced.
/r/seduction20/10/12 10:45 PM

Actually, when you reach a certain age and comfort with flirting, sometimes it is fun to deliberately create a little awkwardness and tension. Because that is a thrill that becomes very rare as you get older and are in longer-term relationships. It's easy to just kiss someone, it builds tension to talk about it first. Also, it's all about the moment. And sometimes the vibe you are getting from a woman is not so clear. Especially if you've just met her. So telling her what you're thinking before …

If you are at all photogenic, I highly recommend online dating. It takes real work, but it will allow you to go on a lot of dates with women who fit the demographic you are looking for. Even if you don't meet the right person through online dating, going on dates on a regular basis will make you a lot more comfortable and prepared when you meet someone through more traditional means.

A lot of the tips on this subreddit are useful for finding a serious relationship (e.g. put yourself out there, build your confidence, etc.). But a lot of the tips are counterproductive. For example, some of the tips are oriented towards taking advantage of low self-esteem. And, generally, you do not want to be in a long-term relationship with someone who has low self-esteem.

Great big upvotes. THIS is what /r/Mensrights should be about. It should not be about complaining that all feminists are meanies or that women sometimes get more bathrooms then men.

You do understand women have different parts than men do, right?
/r/MensRights03/10/12 02:51 PM

These are great points. But it needs to be understood that points #1-20 are all things that "nice guys" can do. Following those pointers won't make you a jerk or prevent you from being a nice guy. So this business about being a "nice guy" is a red herring. Nice guys can be assertive, confident and witty too. Those are the most successful daters.

I'm no mental health expert. So I can only talk based on my experience. To apply your argument to an extreme example, one could argue that being a sociopath or schizophrenic is healthy so long as you are happy and are not hurting anyone. If some people truly do not need or want anything resembling a normal relationship, and they are able to date others without leading them on and they are being completely honest about what they are looking for (sex only), then I don't have problem with that.
/r/seduction26/09/12 02:55 PM

I would say never meeting the same woman twice is not healthy. I believe people need long-term, loving, honest, emotionally supportive relationships. That doesn't necessarily mean serial monogamy. I am not saying that a lack of a healthy relationship means that someone has a mental illness. But I would question the mental health and maturity of someone who said they did not even want a long-term, loving relationship.

Are humor and insightfulness mutually exclusive? I really am interested: Did you find that there was overlap with what attracts you to BDSM and some of the more negative aspects of PUA? A lot of these guys are into control and subtle domination right? (Yes, I realize that for many people BDSM is about trust, but that's definitely not the only component.)

I think you're right that I don't have a good handle on this type of relationship. I see it as a negative, so it's not something I have much experience with. What you gain from "moving on" is the opportunity to fall madly in love with someone else. If you haven't done this before. I highly recommend it. Everything is better, including the sex. But this opportunity is less likely to occur if you spend all of your time and emotional energy with someone you are not in love with. You "owe it to them…

Well, you do have more information than they do. You know whether it is possible for you to fall in love with them. While they can only hope. Making tough decisions that other people may disagree with is a part of life. We can't paralyze ourselves worrying about the perfect equality of every relationship (because they are never completely equal in all respects). I think it is a question of time. Hope you don't mind me commenting. But if you're not that into the relationship, and you feel it's not serious, but you care about the person, why can't you just breakup with them? What's unethical about you saying, "I'm done. This is not working for me."? Edit: Added a missing 'not'.

Are there any, ahem, healthy personalities involved in the PUA scene? In other words, did you meet any men who seemed perfectly capable of ordinary dating, but were using the PUA scene and techniques to pickup women who were actually relationship material?

First, stop smoking weed. It is not helping you to be social. If you need a buzz, have a drink. Second, you need to practice talking to strangers more. Force yourself to do it. And listen to your social friends to pick up on how they keep conversations going, tell stories, etc.

A person in a lawsuit cannot have a doctor testify about their medical condition but then have all negative medical information excluded. If some medical info is admissible, then all of it is admissible.

It sounds like you were making these girls really uncomfortable. You need to scale it way back. Most of the rules and techniques posted on this site are for finding one-night-stands at bars or clubs, where women actually are sometimes looking for one-night-stands. Women at college parties, and most of the places you meet women, are completely different. They are not typically looking for one night stands. Have a drink before you go. Introduce yourself to every person you see. Ask them where they're from, how they know the host, and how they wasted their summer. Then share an equal amount of information with them. Maybe a conversation will materialize. As soon as there is an awkward silence, say "nice meeting you." And move on to the next person. At some point, you will meet someone who you can talk to for a while. After you have met everyone, if there is no one you want to talk to anymore, go hom…

On the subject of men's rights, Ayn Rand had weird rape fantasies. The main characters in the Fountainhead did not have sex, they had rape. Somehow it was supposed to be understood that it was consensual, though no words were spoken. She was a very warped and confused human.

Is this subreddit about men's legal rights or about "how hard it is to get a date without accidentally stalking"? The first link was to completely legitimate analysis of a (now deleted) post by a guy who stole a girl's number and then showed up at her work after she cancelled a first date. That is stalker behavior. Don't do it. The second link was actually to a post by a man. It is embarrassing that this post is being upvoted. First, any strategy that can successfully get people to donate to education in developing countries is a good thing (assuming the non-profit is efficient and legitimate). Second, many (if not most) of the cultures in the developing world severely oppress woman (e.g. women are property, honor killings, men use violence to control women, slavery, etc.). So the whole men's rights movement should be directed to the first world, not places where wom…

Sounds like a symptom of social anxiety that will go away with a little practice. Have you tried a drink of alcohol prior to, or while, hanging out with a girl you think is interested? That should making the step of asking her out, kissing her, etc. seem a little less intimidating. You're young, so the girls you're interested in are going to be a little nervous too. "She's just as scared as you are" might be a good way of looking at it.

Some neighbors called the police on my dad when I was 2 because he looked "suspicious" (he had a beard in the 70's) and was biking around with me in a bike seat. You are very well-positioned to pull off having a good career and also having kids. You are already married, so you can start saving and planning for it. And you are already on a high-paying professional track when most people your age are just graduating from college (if they went at all) and are still unsure what they actually want to do. I glad to hear you have not felt any frustration with how society sees or treats you as a woman. I have met many women who have had a different experience. How old are you? Have you decided between having an ambitious career and having children yet? I'm a man, and I also was encouraged and applauded. So maybe both you and I have had somewhat privileged upbringings in that regards. And maybe that has less to do with gender and more to do with socio-economic class.

From another nearby post: I agree that emasculating language can be abusive and is a bad thing. My point is that emasculating language is only negative if being female is also seen as negative. If being female was valued just as highly as being male, "grow a pair" would have no meaning.

Your links have statistics that I have never before seen. The statistics on females forcing penetration on men seem unbelievable to me. (Over 1.27 million in 2010?!) That does not mean that the group of political movement itself is wrong or a problem. Feminism still has a very long way to go.
