I didn't make the connection that that could be why the statistics were misleading. Attention given to a case does not necessarily correlate with the sentences given. You shouldn't automatically assume my intentions, that's a bit of a hostile attitude is it not? Do you have a source for that statement? I believe you, I'd just like to read up on it.

Good points. It's definitely true that domestic violence cases perpetrated by woman are only brought to the public's attention if it's very serious, whereas cases perpetrated by men are blown up no matter the severity.

The average prison sentence of a man who abuses his women partner is 2-6 years. Women who abuse their male partners are, on average, sentenced to 15 years. (National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, 1989) http://www.bjs.gov/content/pub/pdf/scpdvc.pdf I agree it is too lenient, especially since the AVERAGE time is 15 years for women. However, we can't ignore that men often get a much shorter prison sentence.

I will be starting a Women's Studies class on Tuesday. I'd say I am a pretty unbiased individual who truly wants equality for the sexes. So I guess I will report back on the content of the class. From what I've read in this thread thus far, I guess I am expecting some misandrist bullshit from the professors at my school. We will see. Stay tuned.

You don't understand that that is there to help people if they actually NEED the help. In most cases, they would either blame BOTH parties, or they would blame NO ONE. Most situations like this aren't brought to the attention of the authorities so it wouldn't even be relevant.

If one party gets the law involved, then yeah. Usually they try to blame someone. Which in most cases is the male. So we're trying to change that.

All of the links you posted are things that I AGREE need to change. And I would continue to push for them to change. I still consider myself a feminist, because I will continue to push for the equality of the sexes. But the thing is, women do have more rights in certain areas, and that is not fair. But overall, men continue to hold most of the power in society. Can you agree with that?

So by this logic, in a domestic abuse incident, the police should arrest the man automatically (even if he did nothing wrong) because he is the stronger sex and could do more harm to the 'weak' woman? Do you have any sources that claim that women aren't as smart as men or that they are allowed 'head starts' in education? It's quite the opposite, in my experience.

Do you have any sources that show how females have more rights than males? Also, have you ever taken any Women's Studies classes? Have you educated yourself on the history of feminism? The places you are getting your information from must be biased, because I know PLENTY of feminists who constantly fight for EQUAL rights between men and women. In fact, many people I know believe that MRA's and Feminists are fighting for the same thing.

Well thats the problem - there is literally NO WAY to know who was drunker, and who initiated the sex. So by making the law blame both male and female, we are helping the men that would otherwise be the sole person at fault. It's either we blame BOTH of them, or we blame NO ONE. Does this make sense? That's disgusting. I didn't know about any of this. If this is true, those women are NOT feminists. The feminists that I associate myself with are trying to change the laws so that males and females are held equally accountable in drunk sex situations. They are attempting to help the men who are automatically held at fault. They also would never advocate for a law that punishes men for a women's wrongdoing. The feminists I know are about EQUALITY for men and women.

Okay, that's good to know. But we can't ignore the fact that most people, when using 'pussy' as an insult, are implying that the individual isn't manly enough. In other words, they are acting like a woman, and that is taken to be an insult. This harms both men and women - saying woman are always weak and men are always strong. What if a man shows his sensitive side? Does this mean he isn't man enough? It's harmful no matter what context.

That double standard isn't always true, though. A majority of feminists DO think that if two people get drunk and have sex, they are BOTH at fault. It's not true that the man is always labeled the rapist and the woman the victim, although that does happen often. It isn't feminists faults, it's the governments fault. Feminists are constantly trying to change the laws so that both men and woman get equal rights in rape cases.
