P.s. Also saw reports that men who left Ukraine without a permit after 24 Feb will be detained upon their return. So if these scrotes really cared about the refugees, they should be selfless enough to shelter male refugees since it seems like these Ukrainian men will be persecuted by their own government for their choice. But the scrotes won’t do it, and we all know why.

I would not be surprised if refugees of other nationalities also face similar exploitation. We likely hear less of it because they often do not receive the same amount of coverage in the media (see CBS’s Charlie D’Agata’s “relatively civilised, relatively European” comment, and BBC not challenging the implications of a Ukrainian former deputy prosecutor general’s “it’s very emotional for me because I see European people with blue eyes and blond hair… being k*lled everyday” comment).

It's not really a fight for democracy. Most protestors wouldn't even know how to define democracy properly. Hong Kong has become more democratic in their lifetime; as a British colony, we didn't have the option of electing our governors. The real underlying issues are maintaining an elitist attitude toward China coupled with real social problems such as income inequality and a lack of affordable housing. The protests did not initially start over the extradition bill. Anti-China and anti-governme…

Used to watch John Oliver’s videos every week. But stopped after watching his video on Hong Kong - sorry, but I live there so I know a lie when I see one. I’ve generally stopped watching political comedians because they are just regurgitating mainstream lines without any real thought or research. The misogyny just takes the cake - did y’all see Bill Maher call Eileen Gu “hot”? This is a 66 year old man sexualising an 18 year old teenager. Creep.

Possible but rare. More often than not, they don’t have the self-awareness to realise what they need to change, taking on more of a “it’s everyone else’s problem” attitude. They don’t have the empathy to see why it’s a problem either. So they won’t be able to even begin to make changes to level up. I wouldn’t completely rule it out though because people do change (for better and for worse). My friend’s ex is one such example. Took him a few years to realise but he did eventually realise what a s…

So I’ve talked about this topic with my brother before. He agrees that it’s a low-effort way for guys to ask out a lady, so if that’s all a guy has planned for a date with you, it’s not worth the effort of going. What he’s done when he’s been interested in someone (who he doesn’t know very well yet) is to invite them to coffee or drinks with lunch or dinner reservations made in case they do hit it off and want to continue the date. That way, if they don’t, both parties have a way out before they…

I only got as far as the trailer and all I can say is that I get massively turned off by guys who have photos of themselves with bling, cars/jets/yachts, or designer logos. If it doesn’t belong to him, then he comes off as a wannabe who’s only looking for a sugar mama who can connect him to the high society he cannot become a part of on his own merits. And if it does belong to him, then he must be part of the nouveau riche which isn’t always a good look either.

I usually say “Well no one has died from my cooking… yet”. Strangely, none have been brave enough to volunteer to try my cooking! A few have instead stepped up and volunteered to cook for me though. And I’m learning to ask for my favourite foods when they do (my godbrother actually encouraged me to do this as a way of vetting them because LVMs and NVMs are less likely to take your requests).

If he’s in any one of these professions, it’s an automatic no from me. Journalist: I live in Hong Kong and I’ve seen with my own eyes the violence of the 2019 protests. Most journalists I’ve met blindly subscribe to the mainstream narrative that these protesters are “freedom fighters” and ignore the fact that these same “heroes” literally set a man on fire and attempted to burn down residential blocks, and that one of their most quoted voices in the media was exposed as a white man pretending to…

My experience is a bit different. My dad is the most caring and loyal guy I know, a real HVM. But he didn’t teach me that not all guys are like that, so I was under the impression that it’s ok if I’m the one who takes care of the guy all the time. If there’s something different I’d do if I become a parent one day, it would be exactly just that - making sure my kids know they can’t just blindly trust people out there and they need to assert their boundaries or walk away if they’re not being treat…

Ah… I’m in Hong Kong! Only issue I’ve faced with food delivery apps here has been that if you live on one of the smaller islands, you’ll have a very limited menu to choose from.

I’m sorry to hear about your experiences. They really made me reflect on how privileged I am to be living in a country and region where I scarcely think twice about using food delivery apps. I wonder if there’s a gap in the market in your country for women-only food delivery services. It’s sad that such a niche sounds like it might be necessary.

I generally dress for me and for where we’re going. I wear light makeup but that’s only because it makes me feel good and it’s how I go out. If he wants to see me dressed to the nines, he should take me somewhere I would not feel out of place doing so. Otherwise, I’ll come dressed in my PJs if the mood so strikes me (though such a scenario is doubtful because why would I bother dragging my butt out of bed for an effortless date…). I actually find myself dressing up more when I go out with my gir…

I should also mention that my dad followed up his statement with “And real men know that the dragon isn’t meant to be slayed, the dragon is meant to be respected.”

Haha this reminds me of something my dad said to me the other day when I said I think I’ve met more lunatics in tinfoil than knights in shining armour. “The boys will think you’re the damsel in distress. But the real men will know you’re the dragon.”

I like to treat myself to the nice things I’ve had my eye on for a while - right now I have my eye on a vegan leather bag which truly embodies form and function. I think it’d be a perfect gift to pat myself on the back for standing firm during a salary negotiation (even though that company ultimately couldn’t afford to pay me for the scope of work they’d need me to do). Last year, I got myself an Alexandrite ring for receiving a great performance review. And earlier this year, I got myself a new…

I absolutely hate it when guys use “I was too busy” as an excuse. At one of my past jobs, I was the only person in my role in a project that had a hundred people. Because of that, there were days when I wouldn’t even have 3 minutes to myself in the loo - imagine peeing while one of the female business analysts stands outside the cubicle describing the problem she needs you to fix. Still, I always found time to text people back. So ladies, never let a guy tell you he couldn’t make time for you.

No problem at all. At the end of the day, what we value are practical things - a roof over our heads, food and drink on the table, a job that provides for our families, and a chance to give the next generation an even better future. This doesn’t always align with what some Western cultures may value, and that’s ok - we should still be able to respect that not every culture or nation wants the same things instead of insisting that they follow our ways. Highly recommend looking at Kishore Mahbuban…

Not a problem. Just one thing to note - Hong Kong has never ever been independent. It has been a part of China for thousands of years. Legend has it that a part of our region, Kowloon, was so named when an emperor visited and asked a courtier for a suggestion on the name, to which the courtier replied “Kowloon (meaning Nine Dragons), for the eight mountain peaks and the one emperor”. Hong Kong became a British colony after the battering that Qing Dynasty China suffered under the 8-nation allianc…

I’ve had at least 2 try to mansplain local politics (I’m in Hong Kong) to me. Neither of them were local; neither of them even know about the 8-nation alliance, the Opium War, how we became a British colony, and what life was really like before 1997 (we have 3 local vetted CE candidates our representatives can vote for now, but back then we had to just accept whichever British governor the UK saw fit to assign us regardless of how we may have felt…). Both were telling me what a horrible regime I…

I’d never go 50/50 ever again. If the cost is going to be split, perhaps it should be based on salary ratios. I.e. if Person A makes 2x what Person B does, then a 3,000 dollar tab should be paid by Person A paying 2,000 and Person B paying 1,000.

Sorry but I'm going to have to respectfully disagree. I don't dispute that there are shady practices and illegal trades that should be banned to discourage mistreatment of animals. It's the whole reason I swipe left immediately when I see a guy posing with animals in what look to be dubious businesses shilling out wildlife for a quick touristy buck. At the same time, I've worked as a volunteer at a zoo before and that has given me some insight into why some animals simply can't be returned to th…

I'm implementing a “no reservation, no date” policy. I was supposed to be a first date tonight but in the 3+ days we chatted about setting it up, he didn't make any reservations. It was only after prompting on the morning of, that he decided on a bar. Then as I was on my way, he tells me that bar is closed. He then asked if I'd come to a different bar a bit further up the way (this was 5 mins past the time we agreed upon). 25 mins later, I made it but he was still on his way. I was hungry so I d…

It's quite interesting that while a lot of guys I know here in Asia like long hair, they are not opposed to girls cutting their hair short. However, it is because there's a general belief locally that you need to have a certain bone structure to carry shorter styles well. Like you though, I cut it if I feel like it. I've just grown it back out from a pixie cut to what's now collarbone-length because I'm too lazy to go to a hairdresser's 😅

It's some of the comments responding to the article that are ignorant and bordering on racist. I never said that the article was incorrect but that it presents only half the picture.

I'm a mixed Chinese and Russian woman. I still have relatives and close friends in mainland China that I keep in touch with, and with whom I can fact-check. I love all sides of my heritage, and I think it's important for me to stand up for my countries whenever people try to make generalised comments bordering on racism with only half the picture. Yes, there was a one-child policy but what few people know is that it wasn't always strictly enforced. There are a number of exceptions that can be ma…

I dated an NVM once who said we could still be friends. I laughed and told him I don't have enough time to be wasting it on insecure losers who expect me to cater to their whims. They say the 5 people you spend the most time with influence you... so why should any of us let dead weight stick around?

I got the (lab-grown) Alexandrite in 14K gold, with moissanite accent stones! Quality is very good, especially for the price, and my mum - who used to work with jewelers - was equally impressed.

Thank you! The ring is from RockyHenry on Etsy, and the nail polish is Zoya ZP458, in case you'd like to check it out. And I'm glad that the time I spent learning to paint my own nails with my non-dominant hand paid off! Definitely worth investing the time in learning to do a home manicure rather than in going on a disappointing date.

That Asian comment... ugh. I'm a mixed Asian and because I look like it too, I feel like I need to vet even harder because of the “submissive Asian” stereotype and because where I am, local guys think being able to get with a mixed girl makes them king.
