Excellent and underrated comment. Shame for the beta bux who want sex . . . .

Me putting up with her weight gain and her dowdy clothing, and not pushing my desire for sex because I "wanted" to be "considerate" of her when she was tired, not interested, thinking about the kids, etc.

Upvote for correctly spelling "tenets" in the first sentence.

When my wife has a strong, well thought out, and unwavering opinion, I go with it after I consider everything. But if so much as a single hair of hers is waffling, I need to step in and make the call. Well put. I have found this to be true as well. My wife does not often express a "strong, well thought out, and unwavering opinion" -- she sees both sides, etc. But when she's unwavering, she's almost always right, and I go with it. One of the most important things I've learned from this subreddit …

I can tell you from our experience that Rosemond made a big difference for us. Good recommendation from flathatter45.

TFA is 100% correct about porn. I'm glad to hear you are rebooting. It is not easy -- I've recently relapsed -- but I can tell you that it's absolutely key to get out of the porn habit/addiction.

I too came across it before I learned about the red pill. I think it's an excellent book -- Perel does a great job of exploding a lot of standard (but inaccurate) assumptions about how sex works. She points out that sexual attraction doesn't just happen -- it requires work to become interesting and attractive -- and that sexual attraction typically doesn't arise out of a feeling of comfort.

This is just excellent advice. Facing the urge to binge straight on, acknowledging it, feeling it, and moving on, that really works (based on my personal experience). Thanks for the post.

If you are ready to have sex, then go for it, I'd say. There's a big difference between jerking off to porn and having real sex if you are engaged with your partner and not simply jerking off inside her. I probably am in a different position than you -- I am married. And I'd used porn for far too long, resulting in PIED. Not fun. So I went hard mode -- no sex, no jerking off, no porn, no porn substitutes -- to clear out my brain. Didn't have sex with my wife for 60+ days. When I did have sex aft…

For me, nofap is about reclaiming time lost to useless shit. Well put. It's not about "avoiding" porn or jerking off -- it's about replacing a time wasting habit with something better. My focus is so much better when I'm not thinking about when I can look at porn.

Clinginess means that she isn't her own person -- she will rely on you too much for her happiness/contentment. You want to be in charge, but your first mate still should be someone who has a spine and can stand on her own two feet.

I guess this means the most important box of all was left unchecked with us: similar goals, passions and values. Good point. I wasn't seeking to make an exhaustive list, but that was an important thing for me to leave out.

Maybe part of it was you, and maybe she ticks the boxes I listed, but that doesn't mean you were a match. Don't kick yourself about it. I think that when people break up, it's usually a good sign that it's not a good match. I know there are exceptions -- there are couples who get back together who better realize who they are after a breakup, and who get along well after the reunion -- but most of the time, the breakup is a good sign that it wasn't a great match.

For me, jerking off and porn (or porn substitutes) are too closely linked. I've got to stop both if I am going to break the porn habit.

The length of the flatline depends on the person. Mine hit me around 2-3 weeks in, I think, and probably lasted around 3 weeks. There can be more than one flatline. It happened to me. But those were shorter for me -- 1 to 2 weeks, I think. I made a common mistake before I learned about what a flatline was -- I had stopped jerking off to porn for a couple of weeks, then all of a sudden, I have no sexual drive, things are flat, and I think "this is no good, I have no spark, and I better look at po…

Ouch, that must hurt a lot. A lot. I don't know what happened in your situation, but you must have felt completely blindsided. You're right -- there are no sure things. You did all that you could in vetting your ex. A checklist is valuable, but it is only a checklist. It's not a guarantee. All the right boxes can be ticked and things still might not work out. Life can turn on a dime, melting away things you thought were solid.

This was true for me. The flatline was a phase when I felt blah, did not care about sex. Once that passed, however, I had drive again, and my ED went away. NoFap and stopping my porn habit have been key to turning around my sex life. But I have to do both.

Married 25+ years, we have 2 grown children who I love and enjoy. We're in our late 50s. My wife had only a couple of partners before me. She's a good Mom, a hard worker, intelligent, thrifty, cheerful and positive (sounds like a Boy Scout). She was probably only a 5-6 in terms of appearance when younger, now she's a 6-7 compared to women her own age because she doesn't smoke, moderate drinker, hasn't gotten fat. She's conservative in her dress, always has been (it's been a challenge to get her …

There's a reason everybody posting here is telling you to run -- because this is about as obvious as it gets. You know it in your heart, but you don't want to act on your knowledge (and cut this off), probably because you think that you've put so much time into the relationship (sunk cost fallacy), she's got some great points (so what, so does everyone), blah blah blah. Yes, you've said a number of times in response to comments that you're not describing the good parts of your time together, but…
