Read the edit. My colleague isn't into pickup per se, but he is very very skilled with picking up girls. This was just his thought on the matter, not mine. I disagree with him just like the majority of everyone else here.

Think of yourself as the Ambassador of Fun! Make it fun for her and you, without putting any undue pressure on either of you. Callmeprescott is right, she has internalized how prom is supposed to go, and there is nothing wrong with going along with that.
