A lot is going to depend on the ages of the kids. Week on/week off works best for us. Younger kids might have a harder time with a full week away

I can't tell you from experience but it seems like if you've been making good faith efforts to get employed at a similar level and haven't been successful, that should be taken into account too. Maybe a bit of digging on who's good a modifications and try to get as much out of consultation as you possibly can before making a decision

JFC man... Does she work? Has anything on her end changed that could help too?

Yeah alternating weeks is definitely simpler. I would be ok with that one in a few years. Ours is a little younger and I feel like that makes a difference. A week would be a long time not to see my kid.

Currently working through this as well. I like the 2-2-3 schedule personally for the same reason you don't like 3-4-4-3. In a 50/50 everyone deserves a weekend as long as you can make it work with your jobs. I'm in a similar career and covid changed everything with regard to flexible work arrangements. Many companies will have a hard time getting people back to a "normal" office schedule. People will leave and go where they can get flexibility.

Being on the other end of this type of situation, my bias will show but it absolutely takes both of you believing that change is possible and that you're better off together than apart. I think my mistakes and flaws are not game enders but my wife currently disagrees and won't really listen to anyone who tries to tell her otherwise. There's nothing I can do about that and that sucks but my changes have to be about me first. She can be an influence but not the sole reason because otherwise it won…

I should add that I'm in a very similar situation now. We're about to start the whole process and I'm fucking done with work. The only reason I continued to do it was for my family which is about to go up in flames so what's my motivation to keep doing it? Worried about child support and spousal support too though because I've been a 90% breadwinner our entire relationship. This sucks.

You might be able to take a medical leave for mental health depending on your therapist (if you have one) and your state. Possible your primary care dr could submit it for you have a diagnosis. I took 8 weeks last year with 60% of my salary covered by my employer and most of the rest by the state after I exhausted my sick days which were paid at 100%. Could have burned vacation days too but kept them.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
