Yes they are. Good for your aunt. It's a rare find to meet someone special enough to be willing to weather your misfortune with you. I think that's what we all want. I can say in all honesty that my ex and I were both too weak at the same time to endure a lasting relationship. We didn't have what it took to survive hardship, either of us, unfortunately, therefore we had to make some changes. It's sad that my ex and I both got stronger apart from each other but it honestly helped us both.

That's a great story. They sound like a terrific couple. It is a very big difference when talking about someone who is struggling with an illness, vs what I was meaning to discuss. If you are talking about someone who is deliberately sabotaging their partner, then that's a whole different scenario and that's what I meant when I say staying in a marriage isn't always the right thing to do and can't always be done. That's nothing to do with physical disability. Certainly your aunt is a very devote…

I could look at the end of the whole mess and say it was this or that, but tracing it back you can see this person had all sorts of issues before. Significant behavioral issues that were dragging everything down. Is that a bad choice on my part, maybe. But it's like if someone drinks for example, or cheats they are still going to do that usually even if you stick with them. At some point you just have to cut your loss, lick your wounds and move forward. The big difference is you would actually l…

I agree with some but not all of this. What I like is the optimism, the lack of dependence on statistics. I was also married 17years and I'm not now. I complain about it but in truth staying married was worse in that scenario. When the relationship changes from an asset to a liability, when there's no bond anymore, then it's more work than reward and a mutual split is usually inevitable. Yes it's nice to be with someone for that length of time, but people do change and circumstances change. This…

Yeah but think about what's involved in a marriage. You have to have some practicality sure, but you can't fall in love with just anyone. It's never advisable to be an idiot for love, but without love what is life? It really is better to have loved and lost, then never to have loved at all. By love I don't just mean lust or a high SMV, I mean that thing that gets you up when there's nothing else in life that could possibly give you a reason to try. I mean that invisible quality that makes standi…

So then 50 years ago it may be fair to say that the marriages were there because of social status rather than actual love, which isn't any better.

Good for you. As a conquest the person becomes an object or property. They are vulnerable to disease, isolation, heart break, you name it it's just not good for the survival of the objectified. The way you see things with your relationship is actually normal, what he is talking about is ruthlessness hiding under a facade of fashionable and edgy.

That's the truth. I was talking to some other women about it and within a month I found five. Same situation. Thanks for the kind words.

Well good for him. He sounds like a great guy. I don't mind helping someone out and doing all I can for them, but it's got to be a two way street. Otherwise it's like dropping all your change down an empty well and boy have I done that in the past. You're lucky you held out for one who would prioritize you. That type of guy is worth it. But the other that's the type that doesn't care, you can't make them care no matter how hard you try and what's worse is that they can turn on you too. If someon…

I'm a firm believer that sex is what you make it, and laying next to a drunk thug who's to lazy to shower isn't exactly a night at the Ritz either. I've lived it, but I don't want to go back to it anytime soon. Bottom line is if he's scaring you, that's not the kind of thrills and chills that makes you want to write to the candy makers on Valentine's day.

Right on. That's exactly it. I was the sort with a big heart who always picked that type. Sometimes only time can teach you to stand up for yourself like that because the world isn't always doing it. I think of red pill stuff as teaching people it's ok, and they don't see the reality of how hard that can get. I usually wised up before things got as bad as they can get, but I've had many a girl friend with a bad bruise over the years because she didn't stop and think to move along.

Exactly. I didn't matter. That's what TRP looks like to me, like men who want to treat their partners like they don't matter. Nobody wants that. How many people are tired of exactly that. Nobody wants to wake up next to a thug, a beater or a cheater or even a garden variety jerk. It sucks to live that reality. It's so horrible to live that way. It's just not worth it. It'll wreck your life.

Thank you, it was very reminiscent of little shop of horrors, just minus the violence you know. I found myself constantly settling for profoundly inferior treatment and I don't know why because it's a really big world. I think why? I'm a free person why am I doing this to myself? Why settle for the angry Martin Short type when a Seymour is out there somewhere, you know? Women love jerks? No they don't. We get lazy and we get tired and we get stuck, but we forget we have an out somewhere and I ha…

Thank you. I hope I do too one day. I guess we do base ourselves on our helping roles. I've certainly done this. I just wanted to share what a relief it is to be serving in a worthwhile capacity instead. Our time in life is valuable. There are other choices, and that's a good thing.

That's what I took away from it too, there was no winning. If a red piller came up to you, wouldn't you run like hell? It's like any other job. I can cook, clean, bake and serve like a champ. If I want. I can donate selflessness time and money if I want. But I don't have to do it for a tyrant. I can do it for an older person, or a homeless person, or a church. It's my time and service. If I am to serve and kowtow there has to be a valid cause. That's what's missing from RP is they don't seem to …

"It causes you to create an unnecessary wall between you and your significant other, preventing you from reaching deeper levels of emotion and connection." ^ That was really well said. What happens is a lonely actor and a lonely actress who are starring in some fake, room mate, not a relationship scenario that only looks good on the surface. Soon there isn't anything but a cardboard prop. You are very wise to have figured this out at only 25.

I"m not one of these people but the people I know that have happy relationships just kind of had them. Now. In real time. They didn't worry about their own perfection or the perfection of who they were with I think you are doing what I did wrong, which is telling myself I have no business finding someone unless both of us are perfect, which isn't a reality. It makes us come down really hard on ourselves and everybody else.

Abusing and controlling people has the opposite effect. Just look up anything in history on why peasants revolt. I'm a female and I can tell you when my partner(s) have started the controlling aspect it was like they started a war. And then I'd be in the unfortunate position of having to finish it. As far as not having the experience of power you can have any power you want. Anyone can dress up in women's clothing and be "revealing" or men's clothing anyone can do that too. It's really not a sup…

Look to your kids, your grand parents, your best friend...this is genuine love. If genuine love didn't exist then we'd all spend our whole lives isolated and paranoid.

Seconded TRP like any pop psychology is rarely applicable IRL. IRL, real life alone is an outside force to an ideology thereby eliminating the always true, never true concrete thought that makes up TRP
