For sure. I actually lift pretty regularly and have been for years. I've at times been reasonably big and others more lean and cut, but I've always hit the gym and been in shape. Since the breakup I've made a conscious change in my diet to promote muscle growth, so I am trying to bulk again and it is breeding confidence.

Thanks for the encouragement, dude. It's not easy to self-analyze and attempt to reform your performance. I'm not claiming to be anything I'm not and am openly offering my failures for analysis. I do have a dearth of relationship experience for many reasons not relevant to this post, but I also have a good number of qualities that I can build on if I tweak my approach. I'm well employed, tall, in shape, etc. etc. I haven't used any of that well in the past, but that's why I'm here. It's a genuin…

I just researched triangulation and it blew my mind. Wow. She had one particular male friend who she'd always see right before she became distant or unresponsive, so I kind of knew that he was her "confidant." She told me that he tried to get with her twice during our relationship. Additionally, she eventually started hanging out with some women from work but would never introduce me to them. I assume they were part of the echo chamber as well. She confessed to me at one point that she lied to a…

Thanks, this was helpful. She always told me she didn't know if she wanted kids, but at the end most of her complaints (which she had never mentioned but seemed to have been simmering) were about issues of stability. She never introduced me to her mom, despite my pulling up to her house three nights a week..but at the end she complained she had never met my mom, who lives hours away. She always talked about financial responsibility, as I noted above, which seemed ludicrous given that I have been…

Again, I'm not trolling. I'm not a reader of RP, rather I found it linked when I was searching about similar stories on google. Most of my friends, while wonderful, are very sensitive types who'd never post here, read this site, or in any way identify with any of the ideas expressed here. I love all of them and they're great, but right now I felt like I needed some harsher advice. That's why I posted here. I obviously have a general sense of what I did wrong. I could retroactively diagnose that …

Absolutely not trolling. I've posted about this relationship as it was happening on other relationship forums. This is the first time I've come here though, because I want to be snapped out of any illusions that this can be fixed.

Ha ha, thanks. My mom actually sent me that quote a few days afterwards. Sort of sad, I know. But it is a comforting perspective.

Nope, this is the exact sort of criticism I wanted. We didn't sleep together, no. We did other stuff but she kept bringing up past issues and, as soon as they were introduced, any semblance of sexuality vanished. I tried to be patient because, again, I thought she was the one, etc. etc. I will agree that she saw me as another orbiter, of which she has many. We were officially together (she had photos of me on her social media accounts calling me her bf, etc) so at some point I wasn't, but my beh…

Thanks! This girl absolutely destroyed me emotionally, but I'm trying to use that experience to make myself immune to it in the future.

Thanks. This is very very great to hear. I am also strengthened by the realization that IF (and I realize it's oneitis talking) she was having second thoughts, this is still an unacceptable e-mail. When you break up with someone, you don't get to send coy e-mails to test the waters. Objectively, she'd have to apologize and beg to justify consideration of even that. I agree, this is craving for validation and absolution. She wants to simultaneously feel like she didn't hurt me and that I still wa…

Great, thank you. She has a horde of dudes she keeps hovering around her for emotional/social support at all times. They drive her places and hang out with her when she's bored and she's admitted to me many times she knows they all are in love with her. My goal is to not end up as one of these people, and I think that's what she's shooting for here. You're right, I was very clear that I didn't want to be friends or have any contact at any time ever. So I need to be consistent with that.

What do you mean by a hard next in this instance?

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
