I'd still ask because in academics there is often a technical definition for terms that deviates from contemporary usage, e.g., "theory" in science versus "theory" as often understood by the masses, "liberal" as understood as a specific socio-political system versus "liberal" as understood in contemporary politics, etc. The way the terms are used in sociology may very well emphasize social roles for one term and family roles for the other; likewise, it could be the case that one tends to emphasi…
