Focus on two things. First: what you still have...the experience, skills, and knowledge to create technology. Second: on what you've gained...freedom

This quote is from a great story about a high school teacher kicking Rollins in the ass, helping him to grow into a man. Probably would never happen in today's environment.

Reading is great. During the week I spend a couple of hours in the car each day. I use audiobooks to turn this into time for learning.

Everybody isn't at the same level, starting from the same place. What's old news to you is brand new to another. I enjoyed his post and rereading The Iron. Great stuff.

The Iron Mind website has a good description of each level. I started with the Trainer level. It was hard and at first I could only close it a couple of times. The lowest level is the Guide. I saw reviews of the Guide said it is too easy.

Recommend "How to Fail at almost everything and still win big" by Scott Adams (https://books.google.com/books/about/How_to_Fail_at_Almost_Everything_and_Sti.html?id=sSwEAQAAQBAJ&hl=en) He makes a great case for developing systems instead of relying on motivation.

Posts and comments like these show the value of this community. I too struggle with transforming knowledge into consistent action. It is easy to allow others priorities to usurp your own if you aren't diligent. Thanks to OP for the reminder. Acta non Verba!

Growing up one of our neighbors worked in a funeral home. I asked him what is the hardest part of his job one day. He told me it was constantly dealing with people at their worst.

I keep a "commonplace book". Basically, i have a set of index cards that I copy important/interesting points from books. The act of writing it out longhand helps me to learn and retain the information. I keep the cards organized in different categories, like one for passages from biographies, one for exercise/diet, etc.

Get to a library and check out some biographies of great men. Also, try to get Meditations and the Obstacle is the Way. Listen to books on the bus while you work out your transportation situation.

Do you have a place at hone for you own weights? If so, start a body weight exercise (check out jail house strong) and put that $10 aside. In a few months you'll be stronger and have enough to buy a good used bench and weights.
