I think status is important to a degree because attaining it (especially without being born into it) can show you have positive traits like discipline, determination, etc which are crucial for maintaining a successful relationship or family. Sexual promiscuity is only less prevalent amongst young men because they literally don’t have the option to be more promiscuous even if they wanted to - 80/20 rule. Or the men worth marrying are in short supply recently. Which creates low supply, high demand type situation for the men the women on these subreddits are probably talking about.
