We need to make this an expectation. If you know someone's cheating, share it -- look out for each other.

Thanks! Was also wondering about this.

I agree! But it’s under “no derailing” in FDS rules. Just trying to respect the mods.

I think this is a question of overt vs. covert racism. Many people believe they aren’t racist but due to unconscious bias still say things that are racist. Being racist doesn’t mean you’re doing or saying things that are outright discriminatory. Racism is ingrained and we have to actively work against it in order to not be racist. Anyone FDSer with questions about this is welcome to PM me. It’s something I care a lot about although it is a little outside the scope of this sub.

If someone went to the trouble to call you out, it probably wasn't innocuous. Also, there are racists on this sub. With that said, I agree that posts like this one can serve as a learning experience for someone who clearly has a lot of learning to do and we can do that in a constructive way. At the same time, people could have a visceral reaction to a micro-aggressive (or worse) post/comment, and they should feel safe expressing themselves here as well.

Ugh but there are guys who think if they don't "let" you split the bill, you'll think they're a misogynist.

Ugh. Gotta love that kind of incredibly inconvenient, high-effort-on-your-part *gift*. It would be cute if he was maybe -- under 12 years old? Glad that NVM is out now!

I know someone who did this and she said her husband usually didn't get his chore done, while the kids always did...great role model. #JustLVMthings

This is why constant vetting is a must! Hope you kept the car.

Agreed. If you're in a committed relationship with a HVM, it's not something you'd really need to talk about, and it'll happen eventually if one of you has a social media presence. It shouldn't be used to validate the relationship or as some kind of power move, it should just happen naturally.

It's similar to mansplaining. LVM feel threatened when women are superior in any area. Don't feel the need to prove them wrong. They already look silly.

It's true, all my OLD mistakes pre-FDS just feel like a waste of time -- could've learned the same stuff at home eating ice cream and scrolling!!

It's not too late! You are almost definitely more independent and more yourself than you were when you were younger, and also than you would be if you'd wasted time tied to LVM for the past 8-10 years. Now is a time when you're more likely to meet someone who really aligns with your goals. Go on some dates at first with the intention of just gaining experience, meet lots of people, and then you can start figuring out what you really want. You have time. It's not too late. Repeat that to yourself…

It's true, there's pressure to just "trust" him, even when he's not trustworthy. Or to just turn a blind eye. You have risen above it!

This shouldn't be rare, but in my life it definitely has been. HVM are out there, and hoping you've found one! So happy for you!

If someone tried to give me a promise ring, I'd feel insulted and like they didn't take our relationship seriously. If I had a <21 year old child and their similarly-aged SO gave them a promise ring, I'd think that was smart at that age.

I don't think you will, but men who were taking it seriously will be back on the dating scene, so your chances of finding someone HV will be higher.

"We accept the love we think we deserve." You hit the nail on the head. It's tied to low self-esteem and anxiety surrounding one's worth.

I think pickme tendencies can come from a lot of places, but for many they're a direct manifestation of insecure (especially anxious preoccupied) attachment. I'd be interested to see if there are studies about attachment style prevalence by gender. My guess is that insecure attachment is more common in women due to societal conditioning. The way many men treat women + media can exacerbate any insecure attachment.

Thanks for your thoughtful reply! I agree. I also don't want to be with someone who has so little going on that they can just drop everything last-minute for a date.

I do feel okay counter-offering at that point -- saying "I'm busy tomorrow but how about next week?" If this happens more than once or twice, though, I start to feel like they don't respect my time. I'm not going to train someone to respect my time so I move on. What do you think? Is it worth trying to counteroffer a few times when this happens or would you end things the first time it happens?
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy07/01/21 07:38 PM

Depends. If it's one of the first dates, I want specifics a couple days in advance. If it's someone who's planned some dates already and we have loose plans (i.e. on Sunday we decide we'll have dinner on Thursday), then confirming the day before and telling me specifics 24 hours in advance is okay with me. But if we have loose plans like that and they flake, block and delete.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy07/01/21 07:09 PM

Not communicating a specific plan (where we're going, what time) a reasonable amount of time before a date.

Block and delete! You have every right to be angry. He's not adding to your life - he's taking money, time, and energy. This is the day you stop accepting less than you deserve. You are growing and you'll be stronger because of this. Look into taking him to small claims court to get the money back.

Exactly this! I can understand someone being unexpectedly busy and wanting to inform the person they're newly dating so they know why they're not super available. But in that case they'd mention something specific, with a timeframe.

Awesome! Love the note not to sell yourself short.

If he really wasn't paying his way, I'd cover the full bill, then block and delete. I don't want to pay for a LVM, but would rather pay personally than make an uninvolved party pay! To each her own though.

I think this varies state-by-state and also by how the bill ends up coming, but if you don't get separate checks, each individual is generally responsible for the whole thing (like everyone getting evicted if you're short on rent every month, even if it's just one roommate not paying each month). Also kinda lame to short the restaurant.

Yup. Had a guy who wears business casual for work show up to our second date (taking me to dinner) in sweat pants. From that moment on, the LVM floodgates just opened!

"it’s harder for them to keep up their mask" Except with COVID hopefully they're doing so! (sorry, had to -- but I agree with your comment)

This is so real and so telling. Some LVM think they can take you out to nice places a couple times (Idk to prove they can?). Then they spend the rest of the time promising they'll take you out/acting like they are but actually making excuses like this.

Agreed! Take the lunch time for yourself and see him on Friday. You booked tonight for him already; his problem for cancelling on you. Good for him putting his kids first. Not your job to do so right now though.

I'm guessing she's recently out of residency which is the reason for the recent schedule change/new apartment. If she ever skipped a grade or graduated from college early, it's possible: Finish college at 21 or 22, med school 22-25, residency 25-31. All with this LVM dragging her down ugh.

My plan for 2021 and beyond: (1) Date myself, level up, fall in love with this queen. (2) Continue step 1, add in dating others, following FDS rules to a T.

Yes, we need each other to help vet these guys! HVM have nothing to hide, and LVM are telling women to be secretive while divulging the deets of their sex lives to all their LVM friends.

This! Good for you for seeing the light! Acquaintances were always saying, "you're so cute!" "love you two" and provided fuel to negate my closest friends' concerns.

Yes! Same <3 Moving on and not looking back.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy27/12/20 04:44 PM
16

Yes. Happened with multiple people. The most striking example is someone who made me feel guilty for living my life - hanging out with my friends, working out, calling my family were essentially not allowed. I was constantly apologizing and trying to "be better." Almost every friend who spent time with me told me to end the relationship, since I would have my phone blowing up with "where are you?" "why don't you care about me?" the whole time we were hanging out. Sometimes I'd be crying, begging…

They love gift giving when they're giving themselves a gift. LVM get uncomfortable thinking about pleasing anyone other than themselves.
