My boyfriend is just like yours, but I think we have to acknowledge they aren’t the norm. My boyfriend is disgusted by most of his colleagues, and always tells me to make sure my girl friends are extremely cautious dating anyone in his field. I know he is going to because he has purchased a ring and is planning to propose before our two year anniversary in June. Also, his family loves me, and expects him to marry me. However, even if they didn’t he’s an adult man, and has shown that he will stand up to his family and put me first. I don’t think it’s exclusively an American thing, but I do think American men are especially awful. They cherry pick the parts of feminism they like, while keeping the worst parts of traditional gender roles. My boyfriend of 2 years is Syrian, and there’s huge social pressure to treat women well. My mom is 64, and she’s the complete opposite she’s always told me not to trust a man to watch porn. I used to think she just didn’t understand how it was with young people, but I’ve realized she’s completely right. My HVM has never watched porn, nor does he masturbate very often. It’s funny he actually doesn’t use any other social media or OLD, and his cell phone is probably 6 years old. Which I think are all good signs, because it shows he’s focused on the people around him, and isn’t looking at other girls.
