I never really thought about how much imdb used to influence my movie watching. I rarely went to the movies to begin with (2-3x a year), but I always checked imdb first. I agree completely. I work in tech and have some extraordinarily competent and successful female coworkers, but they do tend to be the minority in highly tech areas (programming, IT, etc...). Also the ones who are successful have been the ones that went into tech of their own volition, not to "show up the boys" or to be "empowered".
