I don't feel like I know enough about affirmative action to come to a solid stance on it, let alone try to defend it. From the little I do know about it though, I feel like it was once helpful but may now be outdated. Still, I just need to educate myself more on it.

Ugh. It's really been a while since I studied gender studies but I do not remember a single author that was taken seriously in that class to being anti male. Frankly, I dont want to do the research to pull them all up for you.

My whole argument is that women can be helped and that that does not come at the expense of men. It seems like you see this as a zero-sum gain. If one gender advances, that necessarily means that the other gender looses. That's not the case at all. There can and should be advancements for both.

There's a serious logical misstep in that last sentence. Feminism not focusing on men doesn't mean that it inherently focuses on something else that you think is the opposite. Anything pro female does not mean anti-male. But let's also not try and make this more complicated than it is. Your question is setting me up for failure. I don't think feminism exclusively benefits women. BUT if men are far more marginalized and face far more serious sex-based issues than women, then yes feminist should switch their focus. But here we are again: I don't think feminism only benefits women.

I think that's unfair to say. Being a feminist means supporting the advancement of the equality of women. You're certainly right. I see the term "feminist" covering equality for both but perhaps having a misleading name. It's been a few years since I've really studied gender in an educational setting but I have never even really heard the term "masculist" until I came to this thread. I hate that the word feminist has such nasty connotations. I'm a feminist and i believe that women nor men should be held to unfair expectations. Sexism absolutely goes both ways. I'm glad to hear that you called out that pamphlet and even more pleased to learn that it went so well. I think that you'll find this is usually the case when you speak to feminists bc I don't feel like I'm alone in backing the position your professor did.
