It’s an exaggeration but they only have 70 on death row this year. They have a decent amount of crime in the UK but are known to be more soft with sentencing. More background on “soft sentences” can be found here https://www.gov.uk/government/news/public-given-power-to-question-lenient-prison-sentences

Dennis Nilsen got a life sentence but he also killed and ate people so he 1000000% deserved it but that’s a pretty high bar to clear

I’m not denying the cycle of poverty. One of the papers is called “violence is a symptom of poverty not a cause” which is what I was trying to say. I don’t see how men fit in here if men across economic are committing more crime. Because if despite money men are consistently committing more crimes then money is probably not the primary factor here. And the paper you posted explicitly said the women who commit crimes have worse economic outcomes than the men who commit crimes and overall commit l…

Economic depression is correlated with violent crime usually because of a lack of economic opportunity. Can’t find a job then you might be more likely to like sell crack or something. People smarter than me can explain why crime is more commonly witnessed in poor communities. But women across the board tend to have worse economic outcomes than men but commit less crime. So I don’t think men committing crime has to do with economics as much as it has to do with how men are socialized. Some people…

Yeah but historically privileged groups unleash their fury on underprivileged groups all the time - aggressively so. But men are doing better financially then women right now. Social support is an issue tho

Violence isn’t always a symptom of being oppressed tho. What we’re white people doing for the lynchings and violence against black people? Were white people just secretly oppressed? This whole thing is a left leaning talking point to show why certain groups of people might protest violently. It’s not all encompassing and it was never supposed to mean random violence.
/r/MensRights11/10/23 02:10 PM

Minorities are not more violent than white people (when have you ever heard of a Filipino mass shooter or gangster) and mentally ill people are also not more violent than general society. Why is it that gay men don’t commit the same rates of violence as straight men if being marginalized makes you violence? Being marginalized does not automatically make a group violent. You’re taking the left leaning idea that oppressed peoples tend to fight back if put in a corner when discussing the Civil Righ…

Idk what the percentage of men who are actively paying child support is and if that is a significant factor. Could be but I couldn’t find a figure on that. The Census will survey prisoners as they would be if they were not in jail (they said they try to get people on their way out of the prison system) which would capture male poverty. POC/LGBT/Undocumented people can be women too. But if men proportionally commit more crimes than their women counterparts then it’s probably has nothing to do wit…

I saw 60% for male homelessness. The US census says they count homeless people on the streets are part of their survey universe https://www.census.gov/content/dam/Census/library/factsheets/2020/dec/census-counts-homeless.pdf so yes they are counted for income statistics. You said to look for the correlation and I don’t see any.

More women live in poverty. But I never heard the reason why men commit violence is because they’re poor. I think it’s socialization and biology; men are more likely to engage in risky behaviors.
/r/MensRights10/10/23 06:24 PM
1

Wait I looked it up and women are more likely to be impoverished? 60% of homeless is men which is bad but not the huge percentage maybe you thought it was over women? In the west we are more similar in lifestyle than not. Palestinians have it worse by literally every metric. I don’t think it’s wise to compare the two as if you share the same struggle. (The median age in Palestine is 18!)

No. But it is convenient that you left out the context of violence as political violence. Why does Hamas commit acts of terror? Due to not having access to water or electricity. Why do men (in the comfortable west) commit violence? 🤷‍♀️

That other stat seems extremely high if it’s only penetrate. I doubt that many men are being assaulted by men - there’s not enough gay men in society to do all that crime. Also I looked up the made to penetrate and it said 1-14 which is still lower than women’s rape statistic. Do you have a link to the 1-9 stat?

The people who partake in large relationship age gaps are a minority. That’s because most people want to date their equal: equal in socioeconomic status, age, morals, and goals. You will also see interesting trends like less family creation in large age gap relationships (could affirm or disaffirm the “gold digger” accusations you see in large age gap relationships depending on how you look at it). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_disparity_in_sexual_relationships

I don’t think it’s useful to ponder “what do men what” “what do women want”. Everything is different in what they want from a partner. It’s better to be authentically yourself and find someone who matches your energy.

I thought you don’t want to be the sole bread winner in a relationship scenario. If this is the case, you should seek out women who make money. Maybe the stats aren’t in your favor but it’s not so great for marriage in general, you can always find someone who fits your criteria. You shouldn’t have to settle for someone who makes very little money if that bothers you. Choose who makes sense and makes you happy.

If you’re so worried about being the primary income earner in a relationship, then you should seek out women who make a lot of money.

Most houses in the west split the hills. Most people marry their equal as well - and maybe it’s not a smart idea to marry someone who will make so much less money than you that they can’t contribute to bills in a way you personally find fair. So don’t marry poor people idk what to tell you.

This might be the thing where a few bad applies ruined it for everyone else. I am sympathetic to homeless shelters that segregated based on sex because homeless women really do get attacked and raped. I saw a TV show called true detective and a dad character talks about another male character who is 30 and unmarried and he said something like “there is just something wrong about a man that doesn’t settle down and has some kids. It shows bad character” and it might have been meant to be ironic because that dad character like cheats on his wife CONSTANTLY but I do think this is the attitude towards unmarried men; creepy, unwanted, bad character

It’s a weird thing that feminists and MRA don’t bring up that often. But it’s so real - men who “too” old and not married are considered untrustworthy and weird. Unmarried women who are “too old” and unmarried are told that they’re too picky or stuck up and that their value as a person is rapidly eroding but there seems to be a disgust for unmarried men (vs fear of unmarried women). Very strange.
/r/MensRights02/08/23 04:25 PM
19

Wait I think this is just the extension of the prejudice against unmarried men. It’s like a mark that you are a well-adjusted individual and married men receive more raises and better opportunities overall. I’ve even heard of married men shitting on unmarried men because “if they can’t settle down then there’s something wrong with you or your lifestyle”. This is a very real thing.

How do you feel about those who were house wives/husbands or STAHM/STAHDs receiving alimony considering they didn’t have a transitional job and were basically being “paid” by their spouse? If they get divorced they will have a hard time getting a job after not working for like 20+ years.
/r/MensRights01/08/23 08:46 PM

In certain cases women have to fight for custody too - I think it’s okay for arbitrage for divorced people to decide on child custody (not all mothers want sole custody and not all dads want sole custody) and if one of them they contests it it should be 50/50 UNLESS there’s something egregious going on like domestic violence or something crazy like that. I think this way would screw over certain people like casual weed smokers in states where it’s illegal or something but idk if there’s somethin…

I like that. Public school is supposed to be about gaining some social skills but I’m not sure if that happens. Or if it does, those social skills need to be worked on and reinforced throughout an adults life. And mental health services is always a good thing, with some messaging that men need to take care of their mental health too. I would like to see more public transit options too. I think there’s already a bunch of services to help the unemployed to get jobs.

Sex doesn’t meant lonely, it just means sex. Sex alone can’t sustain a relationship and it can’t make you less lonely. I just never got anything for being a woman. I was treated like shit in school for being a woman in STEM by students AND professors, and I’ve been sexually harassed in the workplace. There’s no “easy” road in this economy 😭 I think women get interactions they need from their female friends. I don’t know if this is offensive to MRA but I noticed straight men will only make meanin…

Okay I have found this comment extremely ironic. Like c’mon dude be real with yourself here. This is so terminally online. People get in relationships all the time - beautiful people, ugly people, average people. But loneliness doesn’t begin and end with a relationship with a woman. “Having a woman” isn’t the end all be all of life. Why not rely on your friends for companionship? And I just don’t think it’s true that women “just show up to the party” and men do all the work. You have to be interesting and likable on both sides. While the rise of lonely men is a problem in society so is lonely women - it’s kind of a problem with atomized society.

How exactly is society supposed to help men with loneliness? You need friends and a social network to feel loved, cared for, and listened to. And no one but you can cultivate a social network, and it takes work on your part to make and maintain a friend group. Saying society is supposed to help men makes it sound like you’re supposed to be given state mandated friends or something like that lol. “Fifty-one percent of women using hormonal birth control reported adverse effects in 2016, up from 46.8%. The most common adverse effects — weight gain and headaches — were also listed among the top reasons for discontinuing a current method of contraception” so it’s a fifty fifty deal and some of the effects are really bad, like making you suicidal. When it comes to pain meds it’s weird because of the opium/prescription pill crisis. They’re worried everyone asking for pain meds is a junkie. But then there’s not a lot of alternatives unless you live in a weed friendly state…. 😒 we’re set up for failure lol. Idk what the hell was wrong with my doctor. There’s got to be a better way tho. The female BC is really bad still and while I don’t want men to have the same issues…. Those symptoms are still present for a lot of women taking BC. And I don’t see how telling people to stop having intimacy with their partners or other people is realistic. Abstinence doesn’t really work lol we have to make the pill better

They just have not came up with a good solution for women. It might seriously be easier to “unload the gun” vs “shoot into a bullet proof vest”. I would imagine the backlash on a male contraceptive would be immense tbh so if we’re lucky they will improve the BC pill in a meaningful way. 🙏

What about scholars helping gay, POC or disabled men who have immutable characteristics? A lot of funding and legislation is supported by big corporations. They set the trends through lobbying. I’m just looking at the facts on child custody issues - it seems like men who fight for it, get it. So the solution is to educate men that it’s not a hopeless situation and if they want it, they should fight for it. I know a number of divorced men who did end up with full custody even with a background of PTSD from being a veteran. It’s not impossible and we should stop pretending that it is, which is causing men to despair without trying. And the thing is that divorce court will never be perfec…

Obviously not let the women go omg we can help as a society have these crimes taken more seriously and have bigger consequences for child molesters if men would stop cheering it on!!!! We can’t go on as a society and have it be acceptable for men to make jokes about real child molestation and rape like “haha I wish that were me, lucky kid”. It’s like when domestic violence against women was a joke/not taken seriously. WE HAVE TO TAKE IT SERIOUSLY IN ORDER TO INVOKE REAL CHANGE 💀💀💀💀💀💀

As far as I’m aware, there is no default for child custody. It’s up to the judge if the parents can’t decide on their own. Women get custody more often because men don’t pursue it or they are able to prove they are the main caretaker of the children (doing the bigger share of child readings tasks and activities); but men more often then not get custody when they ask for it. This is a non issue imo. Squeaky wheel gets the oil. Gotta fight for it. The Duluth model is insane yeah. It doesn’t even a…

Yeah that’s fair. I think including men’s right under the umbrella of feminism has confused the message. And I don’t think it’s good for women to advocate on the behalf of men when we do not have lived experience of being a man. I don’t want to advocate for men because I think it’s unfair to men. They have convinced themselves that it’s feminism that is causing every issue, that MRA is to end feminism. Modern feminism is a nebulous concept that has been digested down into corporate America. They have conveniently found a cause they can fight for that they know will not go anywhere while they can hate and complain forever. MRAs needs traction. Isn’t what? It’s a crime, because children shouldn’t be molested. You should be going after the people who downplay boys being molested/male rape who are often other men. It’s not funny or a joke but many men behave like it is. That’s a cultural internal thing only men can fix.

I actually agree. I cannot effectively advocate for men’s rights as a woman. That’s all up to you guys. It could be that it’s two different sects of thinking. I’m more of the second opinion. I refuse to speak on other peoples behalf when I have no lived experience.
