Why are you accusing me of defending people that I haven't mentioned and that this conversation has nothing to do with? Seriously I didn't mention VAWA or women being the primary targets of war - you did. Why are you accusing me of defending them? To your comment about feminists like me not being the ones in power - you do realize that there is a large disparity between men and women in elected positions in the US, right? And that there are far more men elected than women? Women make up about 20…

Are you dense enough to not look for "male genital mutilation feminism" or "male circumcision feminism" and find lots of responses in Google for that too? Of course you're not going to find anything about male genital mutilation when you look for female genital mutilation. Again it doesn't sound like you have any actual issues with my statement that feminists talk about male circumcision and agree that it is bad for the same reasons you do

Okay when did I say something that was mutually contradictory? Or is that even the point that you're trying to get at with this vegetarian cannibal comment? Your initial comment was: feminists realize that talking about circumcision (or ANY issue facing men) fatally undermines their entire ideology of hate by saying that men can be victims and that men deserve sympathy and compassion And I respond to that by pointing out that feminists do talk about male circumcision. And they generally agree on…

I guess it's pretty easy to just call me delusional instead of respond to any of my points. Sorry but I was right in that it was a terrible idea to engage this subreddit, even on a position that we agree on. You are too invested in a hyperbolic view of feminism to actually listen to a feminist.

Gosh, that must be true because as we all know MGM is taken just as seriously as FGM everywhere in the world. It's totally not that FGM is talked about everywhere and illegal, whereas MGM is ridiculed by feminists and encouraged even in the West at the same time as FGM is called barbaric and abhorrent even in it's most ceremonial and physically least damaging forms. I think the point that I tried to make here is that feminists agree that MGM is bad. MGM is not ridiculed as petty by feminists - o…

I am an unashamed feminist and I don't know that it's worth arguing - but most feminists that I have met (and myself as well) view male circumcision as the issue of bodily autonomy that it is. Most are against male circumcision for the same reasons that they are against female circumcision - the argument is imbalanced from the start because the most extreme instances of female circumcision are being compared to the least extreme examples of male circumcision, ignoring the fact that both are atta…

Men have made up every President, almost every member of congress, and almost every Fortune 500 CEO, but that's the illusion of power. Men, who by and large have historically held a huge majority of positions of social, political, and economic power, are slaves.

Okay, well if birth control/contraceptives are used correctly the risk is incredibly small, and it's lot like men don't risk getting STI's from sexual intercourse anyways.

Sorry man I'm done. It's clear that you're more interested in justifying your own beliefs than learning something - even something as uncontroversial as intersexuality. If you're going to double down on intentional ignorance then I'm not sure what conversation we can have.
/r/MensRights13/01/15 08:26 AM

I really figured as much. The least that you can do is admit ignorance on the subject of gender. And no need to put it in quotes. It's taught in genetics classes as well as gender studies classes.

If you bothered to do a couple minutes of research, you would realize that there are well over a dozen different conditions that cause intersexuality. If you're interested in learning all sorts of fascinating stuff about the various conditions that cause intersexuality, I encourage you to read the fascinating book Between XX and XY: Intersexuality And The Myth Of Two Sexes. What you said was incorrect and there are some (roughly 1/1500 people) who have any of a number of different conditions that result in their sexual characteristics being ambiguous and not easily identifiable as exclusively male or female. I have no idea what that has to do with political correctness or facts being more important than feelings.

Women will never be drafted. Any politician which voted in favor of it would be replaced by the 55% female majority of voters. It's pretty easy to see an instance where judges, not politicians, make that decision. The reason that the draft was considered non-discriminatory by judges is because only men were allowed to serve in combat. This has changed in the last couple years, and now it's possible for a judge to find the practice discriminatory. And either way, if women had to choose between si…

Do you think that women who serve in the military should be allowed to vote, or only if they are included in selective service (which is entirely possible soon, by the way). Do you think that individuals who are not physically able or are morally/religiously opposed to military service should be denied the right to vote?
/r/MensRights08/01/15 05:44 AM
2

Okay, so even though the draft has not been enacted for a solid half-century, you think that not being forced to sign up for it is a basis to deny an individual the right to vote? What about women who voluntarily enter the military - surely they have more of a right to vote than men who sign up for a draft and never come within a thousand miles of a battlefield, right?
/r/MensRights07/01/15 07:52 PM

Okay, then you think that all women who work and pay taxes should be able to vote?
/r/MensRights07/01/15 07:39 PM

women control 55% of the vote while only supplying 1/4-1/3 of the taxes government distributes Do you support revoking the right to vote from the poor, or individuals who are elderly or disabled?

/r/MensRights12/07/14 01:23 AM

Ignoring LGBT issues is indeed exclusionary. There is no reason why the MRA community can't address both issues relevant to all men and issues relevant to LGBT men specifically, and not doing so fails to address significant problems that men as a gender face.
/r/MensRights23/06/14 06:15 PM
1

Not usually hostility, just apathy. MRAs by and large, so far as I can tell, only pretend to care about issues specific to gay and trans men when being criticised for not doing so. They don't give a shit about a lot of problems that men in the LGBT community face, and feminists do.

I'd just like to point out that men make fun of UGG boots all the time without realizing the fact that they're really, really comfortable. If you're one of these guys, you can't have it both ways. You can't tell women that they're both being unfashionable with UGG boots and too fashionable - at the expense of comfort - with heels on.

To be fair, Freud had plenty of good ideas and brought in a lot of positive change to the (before him more or less non-existent except in severe cases of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder) study of psychotherapy. I don't think it's fair to discredit all of Freud's body of work just because of (more than) a few batshit crazy ideas. That said, yeah, he is full of shit in this particular instance.

I agree, to some extent, but I would also add that pigeon-holed men are just as vicious. Nothing hurts more than a lack of good role models that indicate to us what it means to be a male. Yeah. Some feminists have been very supportive of masculism because they recognize the struggles that we are going through as analogous to their own. I wish that I could say that of more, but far too many seem concerned with tearing down the patriarchy to recognize that gender roles harm men as well.

Despite all the changes for women over the past decades, the role of men in society seems parked in the dark ages. Indeed. This is to me the crux of all issues relating to Men's Rights. But let's give credit where credit is due: Women have as a gender progressed because they fundraised, organized, educated, hired lobbyists, wrote their congressmen, and in other aspects became a respectable and influential movement. Mens Rights has not done the same, at least not at the rate that Feminism has. Wo…

It isn't often that I agree with you, kanuk, but you're spot on. This subreddit isn't going to change because a bunch of people whine about it. Either post the material and have the discussions that you want to have, or go get your own sandbox. The call to clean up this subreddit gets a little bit less brave each time it's made.

Please do. I have wanted a serious arena for discussion on Mens Rights, I've just had no interest in being an admin. I don't see why we can't have both. There is nothing inherently wrong with feminism, only that the masculine counterpart is as of right now inert and inept. Equalism is the goal. Yes. But men need to be advocating for the rights of men, and that advocation needs a name.

From your response it seems you are reflecting a growing sentiment in mainstream society... Then I think I'm being misunderstood. I agree. There are very few places online or otherwise in which men are allowed to discuss masculinity - mostly, in my opinion, because there is an assumption that one isn't necessary for the same reason that there are no places to discuss why the sky is blue. Dear Men's Rights Advocacy Movement. Very well, my friend. But I can't say that I would draw the same conclusions. So, women apply to more selective graduate schools. Maybe they are overestimating their own abilities. Maybe they're more motivated. It could be a lot of things. It's also important to note that these are all stereotypically traditional roles of the male. Stereotypically traditional gender roles of the female were oppressive and would be considered to be blatantly misoginystic today. Good for females, seriously. Men are, however, still confined to the same system of gender roles that most women abandoned long ago, and they have suffered for it since.

Right on. "White guilt" is often mentioned within discussions on racism, but "Male guilt" deserves a little bit of attention itself. Many men today are ashamed of being male, and the only means that they know of to relieve this guilt involves not only the upliftment of the feminine but the belittlement of the masculine. Men are supposedly the unopsressed gender, and many of the remedies of this solve the problems of gender equality do so by opressing men.

The time to hire lobbyists was years and years ago. We need to make up for lost time. Like it or not, women fundraised, fought, organized, informed, and yes- hired lobbyists for the cause of advancing their rights (and unfortunately, in many cases, trampling on the rights of men in the process). So when we see more money going towards research for breast cancer than prostate cancer, we may see an unfair system but we also see the results of actual work on the parts of feminists. Sorry to get back to you so late, I like to take a little bit of time mulling over a comment before responding. As noble as your gender-neutral approach is, there is undeniably gender sexism at play in how we view suicide.
