from State of Minnesota, Respondent, vs. Francios Momolu Khalil: Does the phrase “mentally incapacitated” under Minn. Stat. § 609.341, subd. 7,include a person who is voluntarily under the influence of alcohol or narcotics and “lacks the judgment to give a reasoned consent to sexual contact or sexual penetration?” from Minn. Stat. § 609.341 (emphasis mine): Subd. 7.Mentally incapacitated. "Mentally incapacitated" means that a person under the influence of alcohol, a narcotic, anesthetic, or any …

That's a pretty reasonable view. Japan is in a unique situation where that's concerned though. They largely know why their suicide rates are so high and tend to affect men more. This study is unfortunately paywalled but it details Japan's unique situation in much greater detail. But basically, it gives mention of the workplace toxicity that previous studies looked at (and is almost a Japanese stereotype at this point) but moreover point to the positive correlation with cultural attitudes towards…

As far as I can gather, the reasoning behind focusing on women comes from this study: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0165178120332832 What this study does to determine that women are being particularly affected by suicide is take mortality data from the past 10 years and estimate how many suicides we should expect to see each month based on that data and then look at the real numbers for comparison. Suicide rates among women have skyrocketed during the pandemic as compared to…

"Not expected to stay in the kitchen by a healthy amount of the opposite sex" sounds exactly like the type of relationship abuse you stated above. Women need to choose partners who don't treat them as washing machines just as much as men need to choose partners that don't treat them as slot machines. Besides that though, I think that quick partial list you presented is completely valid. They are, for the most part, problems most people agree need solving but that doesn't nullify that men also ha…

I read that first comment as exasperation at the stigma. Like, if men could see an idol using therapy maybe the stigma in their personal lives wouldn't weigh so hard on them and they could overcome any insecurities they have about therapy. I could definitely be wrong knowing people, and twitter specifically though

And how exactly does "i hate all men" help any cause? Instead of saying what you actually mean or something thats actually productive, you say something that is nothing but bigoted and then expect everyone else to interpret your stance in the only a strictly ideal way. It does nothing to educate or elucidate. It does nothing to progress. All it does is divide. You think you're being helpful but youre really not. People who actually want to solve those issues spend more time defending stupid phra…

You realize I've never once put down, hated on, or derided women in this thread (or any). You're a moron who clearly has not ability to read or think critically. There's some serious internal biases at work and I hope you look into them. You either intentionally ignored what I just said or you functionally just said, "I don't give a fuck what young boys come away thinking when they see people lauding phrases like 'I hate all men' all over the internet". You're a bigot and I hope you see that one…

I was sexually assaulted by a woman who I thought was a close friend but I'm glad you feel confident it's not as pressing of an issue. Don't patronize me about the women in my life, just because you can't separate people based on their merits and personalities and have to resort to defending comments like "I hate all men" doesn't mean I can't. There have been women in my life that have opened up about harassment and I'm there for them, and there are also men in my life who have opened up. Harass…

I think you need to take a step back and wonder why you find yourself defending the statement "I hate all men". You've clearly built up this long and drawn out defense but the simple truth is the majority men are just as pissed as women are at the tiny minority of men who do perpetrate disgusting offense based on sex or race. Why aren't you disgusted by the women who do the same?

Does that have any success with written assignments? I was a TA in college and I could determine about half my class by their handwriting alone. The other issue I see is when people go to discuss the grade after the fact. How does your school handle that? I had the same 10-15 people who would always want to sit down with me after grades were released to discuss (and sometimes argue) their incorrect answers. This seems far better than how we conduct grades now, I'm just curious how successful it …

It's always so surprising to me how the default male expression is viewed as aggressive. I've got a big beard and a Mediterranean aesthetic so needless to say nobody smiles at me or even looks for too long on the street. I made myself a mask with a big smile on it and the amount of "eye smiles" I get from behind masks is unbelievable. Men, women, children all seem to respond to the goofy mask. Somehow without my actual face, I seem much more inviting lol

For the downvoters, how many of you would honestly bring a radical, "kill all men", "the future is female" feminist into your life because she's hot? You'd really roll those dice because she has a good body? How about a woman that expects you to be cool with her lounging around all day doing nothing of value or purpose? Have some standards.

If it's not a human life then theres no reason to limit its use. Tax payers shouldnt pay for it but I dont go around trying to limit how many cigarettes someone can smoke. It's their body, let them trash it if they want to. With abortions, their decision to get pregnant literally does have 0 consequences.

I'm assuming that's just a passing joke but in case it's not: a fetus is either not a human life, at which point, why limit the practice at all? or it is, and abortion should be illegal full stop.

This is going to sound rude, I really don't mean to offend but I want to address this response I see so often on circumcision: Nature generally doesn't get it wrong If certain goat species don't fight often enough, their horns will pierce through their skulls. Honey bees die when they use their only defensive attribute. Narwhal horns are teeth that pierce through the roof of their mouth to form a horn. All painful, all preventable. But comparatively speaking, men put up with more With how broad and nebulous the term "put up with a lot" is, doesn't it seem kind of silly to compare. I love cake, I'll eat anytime a friend offers a slice and order it after any meal in a restaurant. I would still be pretty shaken up if some stranger forced me to eat a cake that they produced from their pocket. In fact, even though in any other circumstance, a slice of cake is no big deal to eat, it's still considered a form of torture to force feed it to someone.

It prevents creepy nobodies from becoming Weinstein though. Once he had such influence in Hollywood, too many people felt it was better for their careers to just fuck the guy and the problem snowballed. the trend is either go into gender studies and write navel-gazing articles about the patriarchy Even worse than that, someone with a gender studies degree is 10x more likely to become an elementary school teacher or a lawyer than a journalist. Unless the quotes are incorrect or misleading, the judge in question had full authority to enact a custodial sentence. Its alarming but stuff like that can lead to benefits. It's a tradeoff. I dont condone the people that took the cultures in the first place but I personally dont fault any researchers that simply take advantage of the cultures usefulness and convenience. Look up Henrietta Lacks

Looking at a country by country basis is largely qualitative and a woefully small sample size. I think it's entirely possible that the emotional oppression, if defined correctly, within a country contributes in some way to depression and suicide but I would want to see research before I would say they're directly correlated. I hate to undercut you because this is a great comment but higher male suicide in a country doesn't directly correlate to oppression. How did you conclude that black people are intellectually inferior? Bell curve doesnt work that way. Over representation at the top of the curve could equally signify over representation at the bottom... youd need to prove a generalized skew. I also haven't seen all of the greatest achievements written out as a list so youd have to prove white people are overrepresented at the top to begin with

Just to catch you up on what happened. You presented a theory that black people are genetically inferior, posited that they never reached an agricultural society without sources, neglected to mention these "finer details" you've been sprinkling in on subsequent comments and deemed integral to your point, again without sources, I responded to the initial statement but now the statement means things that I should've known without you clarifying, and you are now feigning complete incredulity that I…

/r/MensRights29/03/19 09:01 PM

I'm not making any claims, you are. You said they never achieved agrarian level society. I provided a few examples of agricultural products that we're cultivated in Sub-Saharan Africa. If you'd like to change the argument to claim that Europeans are responsible for that, that's fine but that's for you to source. An argument without sources can be refuted without sources. I think we both know the answer to that. Don't think we'd be debating if that were true.

Agrarian like coffee, rice, yams, cotton, watermelons, black eyed peas, gourds, okra, palm oil, nuts, tea, cocoa, sugar, or tobacco? It definitely didn't hurt but the media emphasis on Wikileaks during Arab Spring garnered a lot of support for Bradley Manning before any gender debate got involved. My theory is she only made the switch to ride Snowden's public approval coattails. America was all about that shit in 2013

It's goal is equality but with a focus on the inequality that women face. I don't see a problem with that as an idea. In a pure world where extremists haven't successfully claimed they are the leaders of feminism, having people who focus solely on women's issues of inequality is a good thing. Same with men's rights. The goal is equality but I wouldn't find it absurd if we were only concerned with issues where men face inequality. That's a damn shame dictionaries are making a switch though. Chang…

The answer depends on a lot of things. Suicide prevention: we need more programs that focus of men. Human trafficking: we need more program that focus on women. It's a bit more than one line on the budget... and no group is receiving this funding... I've suggested paths of interest to produce better results to serious social issues. I'm not going to justify it because I think we fund poorly for all cancers but cancer is an area of interest so I'll respond in full. If you want something to be angry about, it should be pancreatic cancer. It has the third lowest survival rate and affects ~500,000 people every year yet it's one of the least funded cancers we have. That or lung cancer, it's the most prevalent at 12-13% of all cancer cases and receives half the funding of other forms. That to me is unacceptable. If I had to wager…

What I suggested doesn't fit your simulation. Let's try another one. The US is crippled by an outbreak of some virus. Yes, many feminists are stuck on skin-deep and often times fabricated issues like free birth control but when I say feminism I mean the word. I can't be a feminist these days because most add this laundry list of mandatory positions I must have when really all it should mean is its definition, no additions and no assumptions. Conservatives get treated the exact same way too. How often do you see people dismiss an opinion as soon as the…

You're talking about issues that feminists prefer to ignore so they can focus on issues that don't actually exist You're bringing it back to my whole original point. It's not feminists who do that. It's some feminists or people who claim to be feminists. But anyone who says they're a feminist gets lumped into those garbage opinions even if their take on feminism is almost incompatible with the extremists. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you factor prison rape into the equation, aren't the rates …

No. Do you think there's not a single issue women face that is exclusive to them?
/r/MensRights15/02/19 09:33 PM

I support solving challenges women face as a result of their gender so yes, but I can't say that these days because now that means I want all men castrated with garnished wages to certain people. All I meant above is that I wish we could use words without adding all these terms and conditions to their definitions. Is that a more appropriate way to express the idea?
/r/MensRights15/02/19 09:19 PM

It's tough. Everyone has to either dive head first into a group ideology or tip toe around every topic that gets political to avoid being permanently labelled

Where did I claim I'm being oppressed? I suggested we contend individual's ideas on an individual level instead of saying "Oh you said this thing and traditionally people of this group say that thing and they also believe these things so you must too". I don't think there are any rights that women don't have, I do think they face challenges that are more prevalent solely because they are women in the very same way men face challenges solely because they are men. Women are more likely to be raped, abducted, or trafficked just as an example. That's a challenge I would love to help solve.

Biggest problem from all directions is that everyone puts everyone else in boxes, and that always has a religious/group-think quality to it. Even you (though I doubt you meant harm). I'm a leftist because I support progressive policies, I'm a feminist because I think everyone should have equal rights and hell, we're all social justice warriors on a sub seeking equal justice for men. I sort of ran on the assumption that mass shootings skyrocketed in recent years. I looked it up (link below) and it's not nearly as drastic as I expected but somewhere between all of our links is the correct answer lol. Either way, it's clear white people are not over-represented in mass shootings https://www.statista.com/statistics/811487/number-of-mass-shootings-in-the-us/

https://www.statista.com/statistics/270272/percentage-of-us-population-by-ethnicities/ This source is a little more recent and lines up with the mass shooting data a lot closer (in that it separates non-hispanic white and hispanic origin). I make the distinction because white people are represented very equally per capita in mass shootings whereas hispanics are highly under-represented and the wiki source doesn't make that clear.

I can sympathize with you, at least as far as children are involved. The research about whether allowing children to transition is a benefit or detriment to their mental health later in life is wildly polarized to the point where you can find any conclusion you look for. It's difficult to hold a position except for reservation on that topic. If you believe identifying as transgender is always associated with gender dysphora or identity disorder, do you believe transgender adults should always ge…

I didn't mean to imply you're wrong. 'Reconcile' was the wrong word choice. I just wanted you to explain why you disagreed with the APA. It's a new phenomenon which is just now being explored in the last 20 or so years - and even moreso in the last 10 years. It takes time for a consensus to be reached and settled upon - I say it's too early to reach a settled consensus. That may very well be the case. Nothing will ever be unanimous especially in psychiatry
/r/MensRights10/07/17 06:59 PM

I say it's impossible for someone to be 'transgender' without experiencing some level of gender dysphoria/gender identity disorder. What I'm saying is the American Psychiatric community disagrees. How do you reconcile with an opinion that is criticized by experts in the field of that topic?
/r/MensRights10/07/17 04:49 PM
3

It doesn't explicitly define transgender as a mental disorder exactly because the APA recognize this difference (the stress it causes being the most significant factor in if it is a disorder, being transgender is not a medical term in any sense). It does point to correlations between being transgender and having gender dysphoria but that also tends to imply that the two are separate phenomenon. Some research shows that children who had more intense symptoms and distress, who were more persistent…

Why does everyone who's against trans people bring up gender dysphoria? It's not as if the American Psychiatric Association has defined a clear difference between the two in their latest dsm. Is the APA just wrong? If so, why the fuck even use their terminology and if not, why can't they read just a couple sentences before spewing garbage out their food canals?

The actual equivalent would be: Why I want my daughters to see me naked By Richard Templeton and that would be perfectly okay with me. You're either projecting an anti male bias in this instance or just against the idea that a parent should be naked around their children
/r/MensRights03/07/17 02:47 PM

But this title (don't know about the article, would love a link) doesn't say that. You can't call this child abuse (or if you don't agree with OPs title, call it sexist) just because there may be the possibility that if a man said this about his daughters, that would be frowned upon.

I don't think this belongs on men's rights. Her story is just more 'interesting' or sensational (which is sickening for a news site on its own but not discriminatory). If George Clooney and his wife got acid thrown in their faces, the wife would probably get just about the same coverage as the cousin here. Yeah and a woman in Rome was legally her father's property unless she was given or sold to a husband. Just because we did things historically doesn't make them right and with the advent of ways to prove paternity this custom doesn't seem relevant

Yeah, this is absolutely the correct method. Men's rights stooping to the tactics of the broken feminist movement is a slippery slope that leads straight to a "Masculinism" echo chamber that's as absurd and disgusting as the extreme feminists you can see on tumblr. I've seen anecdotal examples of women being treated more childishly than men in college (and putting more effort into overcoming that bias) so I don't think we should dismiss this point just because it's used to reach a flawed conclusion diametrically opposed to the statistics. That being said, I've only seen it anecdotally and, like OP, i would like to see a citation before putting any credence to it being the case generally.

In the US, the federal definition according to the DOJ (updated in 2012 presumably in an effort to make it more gender nonspecific) is: Penetration, no matter how slight, of the vagina or anus with any body part or object, or oral penetration by a sex organ of another person, without the consent of the victim.” I don't know the specifics of this case but I didn't see anyone mention this so I thought I would leave this here. I find that to be bullshit. The term 'nice guy' is portrayed largely negatively online. So now they should be forgiven for not looking actively and/or constructively for solutions to their problems? People are taught the world is 6000 years old. Should they be given a pass from reality because they didn't put the effort in to search and read about why people believe its much older? I genuinely do have empathy for those guys (for a while), I went through it and I think its a fairly common issue among men in this culture. What I find unbearable in the context of OP's original topic are the men who have it happen to them and instead of looking inward to find ways of bettering themselves, they lash out and double down, get bitter, get angry That's why I'm stressing the emotional maturity. From what I've read, seen in others, and experienced first hand, oneitis is not about the person you're pursuing. Its about the idea of being with a woman, any woman, and you project that desire onto a specific person. You spend so much time imagining how it should be, you neglect how they actually feel about it. Totally irrelevant to sluts. There are dudes who are shallow, there are chicks who are shallow. I don't deny that it's difficult for many, any childhood habit/trauma/confusion is a huge mental hole to climb out of. If you can't pick up the nonverbal queues that your over 'niceness' drains the fervor from the recipient's eyes, you're either not at an emotional maturity for that (which is fine if you're working on it) which is just ignorant to the situation or you're not actually taking the woman's perspective into account which puts you in the entitled camp.

I agree. That's what the astronaut analogy was attempting to illustrate. My main point is: why should it matter what they we're taught ? The catholic church teaches children that homosexuality is a sin. Should we shrug our shoulders and let them be homophobic as adults? No, part of being an adult is understanding your shortcomings and working on them. Someone who either can't understand or won't work on them has no excuse other than ignorance or entitlement. Neither seem good enough to me.
