Thank you for your post, I found it equally enlightening.

There was still a point to my asking the question. I'd still like an answer. When and where are generalizations appropriate?

Thank you to you and the m odd for making me feel welcome. :)

I hope this is taken in the spirit it's meant. I joined this sub yesterday and the amount of hate that I read would have led me to believe that this is a pretty hateful group too. After my conversations here i'm disinclined to believe that's all the group has to offer, but it is a concern.

I get what your saying, and I hadn't thought of it that way. I do my best to not traffic in generalities because I hate to be generalized.

I haven't been to virtual feminist spaces, because of the real life experiences i've had. I've been demeaned and insulted by feminists in real life, which was no fun and not genteel. I don't consider myself a feminist. I consider myself an egalitarian and I truly would like to help support mens rights. Hence i'm here. :) I have listened to Warren Farrell, I think he's been demonized when he certainly shouldn't have been. I think people have taken some of the things he's said out of context and t…

When the ideology is fairly inconsistent and people have several different ideas on what it means, I don't think it's fair to associate anyone automatically with the most negative connotation. Whether that's something you're born as or something you chose.

I might be wrong, but I tend to believe that any discourse on either side will be less productive than it could be if those involved focus on an us vs. them mentality rather than a "hey this could help everyone" point of view... I won't dispute that very focal figureheads of the feminist movement have been awful people, but if we want things to be better, shouldn't we focus on not being that? I get that more issues pertaining to women are brought up and discussed far more frequently. I'm pretty …

I think the fact that women feel comfortable sharing their stories and fears with each other and publicly is great for them and for the equality movement. He didn't say anything specifically disparaging... But, as a woman, I don't feel comfortable sharing my stories and fears with that hashtag. Nor do I honestly feel comfortable sharing them here, as i'm fairly sure they'd be derided or cited as anecdotal evidence.

First, thank you for the lengthy post! When I visited yesterday, there wasn't a lot of recent posts on the FeMRA sub. I may check it out again today. I didn't know that there was an official feminist flavor. From what i've seen there is a lot of dissension amongst the different flavors of feminists. If we shouldn't be painting all men with the same strokes, shouldn't we consider that not all feminists are the folks who are deliberately impeding progress? I'm not saying that the more vocal suppor…

I haven't been to any virtual feminist spaces, nor do I plan to. I get very heated when I see people on either side making sweeping generalizations and degrading any flavor of people. I've had less than fun and exciting in person conversations with specific feminists who've tried to turn a talk about equal reproductive rights into how "men are keeping themselves down." Why can't we go with people need to do a better job of creating an open atmosphere where weapons aren't needed?

That's good to know, and I get that. We've all been wronged by some group. I guess i'm asking if that's encouraged or if that is really a major portion of what's discussed here. I've been to the the site and i've watched the videos. Thank you for sharing.

OK great. I won't defend the modern feminist movement, but I will say that in the same way we can't paint all men with the same brush, why should we paint all flavors of "feminism" in the same light? What I was asking was more of, Why is there no "NRA" for mens rights, or something along those lines? If it's not used a silencing technique, why would it be irrelevant to a discussion?

Thank you for your response, I appreciate it. As an aside, I recently read a thread here that talked about how feminist writers need to qualify with "some" in front of men to not lump all men into a negative category. Shouldn't that logic be applied to feminists as well? When I was growing up, I was never taught any of those beliefs by my "feminist" mother. I don't believe them now, but I do believe in certain situations inequality exists, for both sexes.

If the goal is to advance mens rights, wouldn't it be better to know what all of those fighting for that cause are going through? Just to be sure what i'm reading; did you just compare all feminists to the KKK and Nazi's? When I was talking about unification, I was specifically asking why their isn't a unified body to discuss and lobby specifically for mens rights. Also, thank you for recognizing my ability to walk and chew gum. This last bit seems like a lot of a rant. I'm mildly concerned that…

First, thank you for your response! Do you think it would be a good ideal to know what issues women who do support the MRM movement face? I tend to think that it can be as harmful to be a woman who supports the MRM as it can be for a man to label himself a feminist in certain circles. The fact that no one can come up with a salient working meaning of feminism is disconcerting. I have a hard time comprehending how some people shun egalitarian ideals. See above. I don't understand why anyone would…

I did read the sidebar. I have read the FAQ. I have read your reasons your objections to feminism. Did you wan't to address or discuss anything that I posted above? I'm not new to the ideas surrounding mens rights, and ideally i'd like to be a more well informed and vocal advocate.

I don't know if you intended to post in response to me, or if there was a miscommunication. My response was directed to the person whom stated that you were a pawn for identifying as anything associated with feminism. Or at least I assume that's the issue at hand here...

Ok, my first attempt to reply to your post was to respond in kind. Rather than doing so i've typed up a new reply... Your post hurts my brain and furthermore does nothing to help mens rights. Do you believe that your post is bringing enlightenment? In all actuality your post is likely hurting the cause by turning people off to the movement in general.

This! Thank you. I've been looking about this sub to learn more about Mens Rights, and I was hoping i'd see something like this. My hubby and I have spent a lot of time discussing rights in general, and I consider myself an egalitarian. I go to a historically women's college and i've been repeatedly told by people that "feminism" is about equality but thus far no one's proven that to me. This comment made me smile and be grateful that I subbed.

As a question, why do you believe that when women talk about men they should clarify and say "some men," but in your post when you refer to women you don't do the same. Along those same lines, do you make the same clarification when speaking about feminists?

When talking about any form of mental illness, we could mainstream it and take away the stigma associated with it. Then people could get help if they need it, without the stigma, and move forward.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
