It will get better, I've got two teenagers and an ex wife, we all get along, it's been 10 years. The thing I am most grateful for (even though I didn't want the divorce) is that my boys didn't grow up being taught that what we had was a healthy relationship.

That's the attitude to take!. I was exactly like OP, I couldn't wait for the anger and sorrow to pass. It's been 10 years, I have a great relationship with my ex, we've raised our two boys together, and it's been way better for everyone involved.

Yep, pretty much my story too, 5 years out and we're over all of that as good friends and working together to raise our kids. Your relationship with your ex is changing, but it's still a relationship, try to make it as good as can be.

Think about what you are teaching your son about being happy, and what a healthy relationship is. It's not selfish.

In NL RRSP accounts are not divided but held with the individual. Don't know about Ontario

Pretty similar situation for me, 6 weeks after separating she had her boyfriend staying over with the boys. Nothing you can say or do. Try to keep your head from exploding and bear with it. If she's moved into a relationship too soon after the breakup it'll come back to bite her in the ass later. As for the kids, try and keep them out of it. If she plans events during your time with them, then you can plan events during her time. Talk to her about it, is this the arrangement now? If not, ask her…

Discussing performance anxiety with her will help reduce its effects

Yes, weep. this is a fucking trap that almost all men fall for (noting that MGTOW is a tiny minority of men). Men need to help educate other men before they fall into this.

Talk to a lawyer, not reddit

Separating is really really hard, probably the hardest thing I've had to go through (2 kids involved). That being said, I was a shitty father and husband because i was unhappy all the time, so was my ex. We are both much better off now; happier and better parents. Don't stay together if you are not happy, don't do it for the kids (they'll pick up on it anyway) and don't do it for your family (you'll just come to resent them over time). Note, my ex and I rarely, if ever raised our voices with o…

Not exactly a freelancer but do have a very flexible arrangement with my ex. The key is both of you wanting to put the kids first. I replaced her picture in my contacts list with a picture of my kids, so that every time I have to call or message her I'm reminded that I'm only doing it for the kids. Be civil with each other, it's for the kids. I also had a lawyer draft up separation agreement that spells out the flexibility in legal terms, which also is kid-first and pretty hard to disagree with.

You sound like me 3 years ago. Yes, go get some proper advice, as much as you can afford. Remember that your debts are her debts, and you deserve as much coming out of the divorce as she does. If the house is overvalued, sell it, if its a loss then she owes half that loss. You have every right to joint custody of your child and the means to afford a decent place to house and feed him. Don't pay alimony at all until you have something in writing. You won't be able to claim it on income taxes, plu…

You're getting off easy, she's already gone, just let her go. Be glad it's not 10 years down the road.

I usually counter that argument by agreeing that so called toxic -masculinity or the patriarchy are indeed damaging to society, including men. Then, point out that while the past 50 or so year have been dedicated to improving opportunities for women, but society (i.e. patriarchy, toxic masculinity, or whatever term is on the table) has done little to open traditionally female roles for men. Try meeting a woman in a bar and opening with "my goal in life is to be a stay at home dad". I conclude wi…

Actually, in for Canada, Statistics Canada has kept track of the hours worked, and surprise, women are making more per hour on average than men. This says that the wage gap is due to women working less, but when they do work they actually get pain more than men. here's the link: http://www.statcan.gc.ca/pub/71-222-x/2008001/sectionh/h-hours-heures-eng.htm

Thanks for the reply, I certainly agree with you that using the overall average glosses over a lot of the fine detail that may help to explain the differences noted. My point with the post was to provide a soundbyte statistic that counters the current media narrative. I realize that it's been said before.

Well, it's the moderates, both men and women who are being hoodwinked by feminist "facts". You're right, some people operate with a closed mind, but we should speak up when false "facts" are being reported.

Absolutely, in Canada the law pretty much guarantees that post divorce incomes are equal, however the one with the higher income still has to pay income tax on child support payments. Fortunately, the law has changes so that is not the case for alimony (you are obliged to pay both child support and alimony if you make more).

Stats Canada also suggests that more women than men choose part time or reduced hours in order to provide child care. Really, the focus should be making society more accepting of fathers as the primary caregiver, I'd love to work less and see my kids more.

Yes, what kills me is that /r/TwoXChromosomes is filled with women complaining about being being objectified while simultaneously stereotyping all men as threatening. On the other hand, I congratulate reddit on finally getting me to log in every day (rather than just lurk) so that I can avoid /r/TwoXChromosomes posts!

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
