This was at an event where the attendees are known to get really drunk. The police are expecting all sorts of drunken misbehaviour, and they probably expect to deal with people who cross the line "as a joke".

The police don't press charges. Yes they do. Don't talk about legal systems you don't understand.

The title is very misleading. "Sexual violation" is the gender-neutral equivalent of rape under the law, and carries the same sentence (it is actually the same crime). Here and here are some other instances of people being sentenced to home detention for the same crime that this woman was convicted of.

Canadian law is probably along the same lines, but I can't be bothered looking it up.

These submissions happen all over Reddit, and they frequently involve gender disparities. Women should never have been granted the right to downvote!

IMO, the only way to win is not to try too hard to identify them and not become upset when it turns out to be a troll. Man, that's exactly what they want you to do. The only way to protect yourself is through constant vigilance. I, personally, would go so far as to say that /r/MensRights is infested with trolls. I have a list of two hundred and five names that were made known to the admins as being active in /r/GameOfTrolls and who nevertheless are still working and shaping subreddit policy as m…

I was told something about Ron Paul when I got banned. Did you get a message saying You have been banned from posting to /r/ShitRedditSays: I don't think Ron Paul is a qualified candidate for the President of the United States of America. ? If so, then the bit about Ron Paul was just the title of the subreddit at the time and didn't actually have anything to do with your ban specifically. To compare, if you were banned from /r/MensRights, you would get a message saying You have been banned from …

If the second sentence were true, wouldn't the third sentence not be true?

So the specific groups defended by conservative commentators in that article are the Family Research Council, an organisation of homophobic bigots, and the League of the South, an organisation of neo-Confederate white nationalists. Yeah, obviously this "hate group" label is getting out of control. Leftists everywhere.

preteen_girls had pictures of prepubescent kids in "modelling" shoots afaict. There are a few screenshots floating around where you can see thumbnails (such as here).

cancer-fakers Strictly speaking, Chen didn't fake having cancer. He faked having faked having cancer. He made a tweet pretending that he had faked having cancer; he didn't actually fake having cancer.

the lack of my negotiating freedom in "potential accidents" Two things: If you're at the stage where you're getting "afraid of commitment," talk to your partner about what would happen if she got pregnant. If you're that worried about getting pregnant, get a vasectomy. I assume the potential financial burden is a major cause of your concern, and getting snipped would cost far less than a child.

Bluetooth actually always handles one connection at a time. Wouldn't you need more than one network card to have more than one wifi connection at a time?

Did you seriously miss that whole thing... it was a big deal in some parts of the internet. PZ Myers wrote about it.

Can't stand for both the expansion and abolition of selective service registration? Sounds about right to me.

So if I'm opposed to military conscription and in favour of equal rights for men and women, you think that what I should be doing is: Try to change the law so that women aren't excluded from selective service. After this is done, then try to abolish selective service altogether. Have I got that right?

Pretty sure you're not supposed to do that. Why do you think that? Lots of subreddits do that. The big no-nos are altering the text of comments/titles or using it to impersonate other users (just altering username text isn't necessarily bad; see /r/4chan where everybody is Anonymous).

Our average is 252.3. An estimation of our standard deviation is 19. wtf that is not how you analyse this data. You need to use time series analysis to determine if there is a trend and then test whether the new result deviates from that trend.

Relevant: Remember, no one here is under obligation to educate you on basic tenets of sociology or critical race and gender theory or whatever. If you don't get graced with knowledge, you're welcome to go to Google and Figure Shit Out Yourself.

iirc, there have been some deaths in people who have received the vaccine. The vaccine has been administered to a few million people, and I don't think there's been any link demonstrated (i.e. vaccinated people are dying at the same rate as unvaccinated people).

The thing about the top positions in almost any field is that they require a massive sacrifice of personal time that most women don't want to make. It's funny, I was just reading about how this works in law firms: Thus, we find that women must demonstrate extraordinary work commitment to improve their chances of partnership, for example, by bringing in new clients, establishing a large network of corporate clients, by returning from maternity leave and continuing to docket high numbers of hours …

Nice reading comprehension. Responses were included as consistent with our operational definition of feminism only if they included some reference to gender equality; a definition was counted as consistent if it made some statement about disliking men, as long as it also included a reference to gender equality. “Feminists are women who dislike men and want to have the same rights as men have” was an acceptable definition.

This link is to the abstract of the study. For those who can't get through the journal's paywall, I've uploaded a copy here (I think I've got the sharing settings right). Hostility towards men was measured using the "Ambivalence toward men inventory" developed by Peter Glick and Susan T. Fiske. I've uploaded the paper describing it here. Some key passages relating to the methodology from the main article: Undergraduate students (N = 488) from a large, nonresidential, Hispanic-serving public univ…
