Yeah bro forget the noise. Trp recommends lifting to increase testosterone levels and sculpt the mind and body but really, you can do that through other ways (body weight exercises, boxing, bjj, etc) Forget the noise and you do you brother.

Poor guy. Probably didn't know any better. Didn't know what he was signing up for at the age of 18... Young, green, and naive as the majority of us were. As for your question OP, the military can open a door of opportunities (i.e GI bill, pensions, great loans, and life experience). maybe he didn't have alot going on for him as a mechanic... who knows! Yes I agree with you too. Fucking randoms and getting stds for life like hepatitis herpes hpv warts is not mandatory and definetly not my cup of tea. Personally I'm leaning towards LTRs... Aside fron what you mentioned (lifting, letting the ego go, and learning), i would suggest prayer/meditation.
