They often say that males pretty up to attack females and females pretty up to make other females jealous.

This is actually an interesting paradox of a lot of modern cultures; it wasn't always the case actually; there were a lot of cultures where males were the "showier sex" which is what you expect. Typically in these kinds of scenarios with most animals you have one selective sex and one sex that is showier. Consider the quintessential example of the peacock of course but there are many other examples. That in a lot of cultures right know females are both more selective and showier is actually very…

"low rates of trafficking" is a useless metric because no one ever knows how much trafficking is going on—that's the problem. "high rates of trafficking" can just as easily be interpreted as "high known rates" as in the police its doing its job effectively to arrest and prosecute and "low" can just as easily be interpreted as "the police is ineffective at finding out and stopping it.

The way I read this is just that you can't openly and notoriously offer it on the street as this would offend many. So you can't go up to another and either offer them sex in exchange for money or money in exchange for sex but through discrete channels it's completely fine to exchange money for sex; they just want to stop random street-goers that aren't looking for such a thing to be bothered.

Yeah guess who had the upper hand in relationships then.Men.What you describe is a masculine idea by men for men. Also in epics ,crying was to make the character more relatable not because it was some ideal of masculinity. The ideal was that they were brave ,cunning ,loyal and could slay dragons. No it was absolutely the ideal: females in fact were supposed to always be cheery and never show sorrow. Male masculinity was defined amongst other things by their ability to live through sorrow and havin…

The problem with these statistics is that it's difficult because it obviously goes over a long time. In theory there are two options for a marriage to end: death of either one or divorce so if you want an actual statistic of "the number of marriages that end in divorce opposed to death" you basically are getting statistics from those that married 50-60 years ago so basically statistics of a different time. A more useful metric is "cumulative divorce rate" as in "20% of marriages divorce before t…

If by that you mean this bullshit western invention of "sexual orientations" then yeah hell yeah. This whole idea of "People are born with a sexual orientation" doesn't pass the historical laughing test. Sure sure people are "born with one" and it's not at all culture but it just so happened to be that the entire Spartan military loved to get their boy-love on.. what a cosmological coincidence! Every male citizen was conscripted and they just all happened to magically be born bisexual! No it's c…

I never said anything was "biological" I think it's all madness trying to find "biological imperatives" in human behaviour for the most part. For crying out loud human beings are a species that don't even learn to properly walk if not having walking parents to mimic; feral children crawl on all fours. Human behaviour is extremely plastic compared to most species with far less biological imperatives than others: a cats sits like a cat does because its genes tell it to: a human sits in a variety o…

Beats me; I have no idea; I don't particularly care about that discussion nor am I qualified to talk about it because I'm pretty sure its frame of reference is the US. I'm merely pointing out that the biological instinct argument is almost surely false evidenced by the many cultures where it doesn't occur.

Sometimes they make a distinction between "gay" which is a social identity and "homosexual" which is not. There are various homosexuals that don't subscribe to the social identity—you know in the same sense as not everything that enjoys metal music is a "metalhead". So I do think that "gay" can probably be spotted in that sense with some degree of accuracy but "homosexual" almost surely cannot.

No, OP is quite unambiguously saying that attraction to "self-assured stoicism" in males is a universal biologically evolved instinct and I simply contest that claim; that is all and I'm not sure what exactly you're arguing against here.
/r/PurplePillDebate14/04/19 11:06 PM

Who is arguing stoicism is biologically preferred? And in what context? OP? Did you even see the part I quoted: this is the original quote I responded to: These instinctual reasons are very much analogous to the way that women are almost universally attracted to confidence and self-assured stoicism in a man, and deeply turned off by neediness, emotional volatility and insecurity in a man. It's evolutionary biology and psychology 101. I'm merely arguing against the claim that this preference alon…

The thing is that you don't notice the ones that can; they might very well walk the streets in large numbers and you'd never know.

Actually they made an AI which with 90% accuracy can tell from a dating site picture whether a white male on it "identifies as gay" or not— the problem with the AI however is that it does not actually detect facial structures but detects a "style of taking selfies"; the AI was no longer capable of learning this when you took individuals, told them to stare blankly in front of them and take a neutral picture.

No, an argument of 4 000 years ago serves just as well to disprove the claim that it's a biological instinct because evolution doesn't work that fast. If ti was a biological instinct it would be a constant for the last 50 000 years at least.

Everything that talks about "evolutionary psychology" and "biological instincts" better damn well should. If you're not willing to care about 4 000 year old cultures then drop the pretence of this whole "biology" and "evolutionary instinct" crap.

And what does that have to do with this discussion on whether all those things are supposedly biologically programmed? I'm just saying that these things are surely not biologically programmed but just cultural; especially the whole "stoic self-confidence" thing because they're not remotely cultural absolutes.

Which culture is into slutty women as wives? There are plenty of cultures where marriage itself is considered outdated and obsolete or was never a big thing. Most Dutchmen will die without ever been married because they don't care about marriage. There was also some research here that indicated that in Sweden female virginity was considered a negative trait and interestingly more so than male virginity. This is basic evolution because of the risk of cuckolding. Lol @ tying evolution to "marriage…

Beats me; Neither I nor OP talked about any of that. What does that even have to do with "self assured stoicism"; I'm purely attacking the claim of stoicism arguing that there have been and are many cultures where males crying and showing emotion is considered attractive. On an unrelated note to that yeah soft jawlines are very popular in large parts of East-Asia right now; in Japan and Korea males are expected to be "cute"; all are it seems where "cute" is the ideal no matter the sex. On the ba…

No; it's like "shaming women for preferring sexually discriminate women as being sex-negative" All these "gender swaps" where "some things are changed" are weird. The "male equivalent" of a "female slut" is not a "male virgin" it's a "male slut" These instinctual reasons are very much analogous to the way that women are almost universally attracted to confidence and self-assured stoicism in a man, and deeply turned off by neediness, emotional volatility and insecurity in a man. But it is taxed right now because it's legal for prostitutes; that's the funny part.

In its original meaning it meant women's tendency to marry men of higher status than their own. So even then it didn't simply mean "more selective". Maybe but it seems like the original meaning has now been diluded to just "more selective" apart from that such a "tendency" cannot logically exist except if you find a lot of high-status females that are not married to a male and a lot of low-status males that are not married to a female.

In the Netherlands all prostitutes must be self-employed by law. It is illegal for a company to employ a prostute as a legal structure but prostitutes can still have a brothel which is then joint owned by multiple prostitutes and in that case the difference is that the manager... let's call this the "pimp" is employed by the prostitutes rather than in reverse. If you ask me this restriction is still silly though; it should be possible to employ a prostitute and make the terms in a legally bindin…

That's just Sweden, Iceland, and Norway, not even Denmark and Finland where it's just legal. Which is really a model that is the worst of both worlds if you ask me. The big argument in favour of legalization is that this means that a client can go inform the police when it suspects that it was fishy and something wasn't right and the prostitute seemed like a slave. If the police gets multiple reports like that on the same place they might just go check it out. It being legal for the prostitute i…

I don't think it was ever established that they do just that don't consider them attractive on looks alone. But then "hypergamous" is again a fancy term for "more selective". This term reeks of "jargon for jargon's sake" where there is a need to invent a fancy concept for a very mundane thing to make it sound scientific.
/r/PurplePillDebate14/04/19 12:00 PM

Is "hypergamous" really just "wanting the best possible mate"? That seems like a needlessly fancy term for a basic concept. What doesn't want the best possible mate?

How many men have truly platonic female friends that they hang out with all the time? I'm not saying there aren't exceptions, but I doubt it's that normal. If a guy is going to coffee shops/dinner/events with a girl, I'm pretty sure there's at least a quasi-flirtatious subtext. Only if you consider the exact same behaviour "not flirty" or "flirty" purely depending on the sex configuration which is what many seem to do that are seeing ghosts.

Anything I know can screw the entire town of whatever sex sideways, film it, and put it on youporn for all I care let alone be friends with them. I have no interest in telling anything whatsoever what it can and cannot do in its own time.

On average far less than males it seems. For some human beings love and sex seems to be an essential thing and for others it seems to just be a thing that is nice when it happens but not essential and males are far more often the former type than females are it seems. It seems that more often males go out with the purpose of finding love and sex whereas females just treat it as something that is nice when it happens.

This question only makes sense on the assumption that you're a gender essentialist and I'm not; there is no way specific way that "men" are.

What does evolutionary psychology do take into account? As a rule it's total toss because there are no experiments; there is no science without controlled experiments. You can't control evolution and perform an experiment on it.

Is there any historical evidence that it even happened there? The Titanic in general is full of dramatized myths. Most notably that no one called it "unsinkable" before it actually sank.

This question seems to be conditioned upon the idea that the respondent is miserable over being single and does not want to be single. Things can be happy from whatever they want to be happy—I would never sacrifice what little autonomy the state affords me further by intertwining my life with another and giving them a degree of agency in what I can and cannot do when they aren't around.

Do they still exist? Don't regulations typically nowadays require that there be enough lifeboats for all? Indeed the article says: It now prescribes that there should be 125% life boat capacity creating a surplus that in theory is supposed to prevent the need to ration the evacuation procedures. [...] The current guidance gives no advice on prioritising different groups of passengers. There must be adapted life boats for people with mobility impairments, not including babies or toddlers, but the…

Culture doesn't change in 10 but in 100 it's pretty plausible. It's not any more far-fetched than as said long thick eyelashes which are a biologically masculine trait being favoured.
/r/PurplePillDebate12/04/19 02:14 PM

I don't think that you can extrapolate from this that men in the USA favour beards on women in general, or as anything other than a tiny niche interest. The question was if there could ever be a culture that did; not whether it is currently appreciated in the USA. And I think that yes, it can. For the same reason that against all odds in some cultures right now thick, long eyelashes are appreciated on females which is patently absurd as it's a high testosterone marker just facial hair.

Oh yeah this is apparently an feat outside of the Netherlands they tell me rather consider a basic necessity to properly get around places. How on earth would I have studied for tests in the 30 minutes it took me to bike to school if I wouldn't be able to do this?

It's currently not happening no just like before mascara this whole "long eyelashes on females" trend wasn't happening either. Besides it was happening to some extend in that female Egyptian leaders sported a fake beard typically.
/r/PurplePillDebate12/04/19 01:00 PM

Why not? if there have been cultures where males preferred females with long eyelashes and long fingernails which like a lot of facial hair are indicators of high testosterone levels.

Also they often invent in their head some "battle of the sexes" scenario where their own sex is their ally and the other the enemy which is seldom how it works. The reality is that a lot of "female privilege" is sustained by males simply because they like it that way and consider it "proper behaviour" just like a lot of females reject it because it either makes them uncomfortable or out of solidarity and the same happens just as often if you flip the sexes. Like over at r/twoxchromosomes they se…
