On the subject of the gender pay gap, I’m really not finding much that suggests that men make more than women. But I did find a number of articles like this one : Gender Pay gap that seem to show that men, on average, make more money than women. On the subject of gender roles, it seems that we are at an impasse due to our differing perspectives. My personal experience and the experience of women around me has led me to firmly believe the way that I do. I’m frustrated by the subjectivity of socia…

Care to explain? I’m not sure I understand how that’s victim blaming.

I still am not convinced that men are the primary victims. I think if most men acted appropriately and society expected them to be accountable for their actions, we wouldn’t be in this situation in the first place. False accusations are not as big a deal as sexual assault. False accusations can be disproven if you remain calm and actually didn’t do it. Take a look at Muller for instance. I think men like you have developed a victim complex and it’s ironic because that’s the very thing they claim…

As a woman in a 95+% male dominate industry, I beg to differ. Edit: just googled it, it’s actually 98% male.

I don’t believe in equality of outcome, only of opportunity, as I stated.

The problem with abandoning listen and believe is that most cases of rape happen when there’s only two people in a room, and it’s the accusers word against the accused. Now, I do think that the accused is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, but sworn testimony IS evidence, it always has been in the American justice system. So, if we want justice for rape victims, believing a sworn testimony is the right thing to do. Also, processing rape kits would help enormously. Do you know about …

Women just want to have the chance to succeed without being excluded based on their gender. I think that’s pretty meritocratic, don’t you?

If feminism is the default and women are the ones in power, isn’t it your side arguing for change?

Can you support you claim that women make more with evidence?

I have to say, I think I could be the norm if there was more freedom from gender roles. I think most women would be perfectly happy dating someone who doesn’t make as much money as them if their income is adequate. Maybe more job opportunities could ensure more women don’t need to marry rich to live a decent middle class life. I know a lot of girls I went to high school with were raised with the expectation that they would go off to college to marry a guy who was already wealthy or was soon to b…

I have been told (by men) I’m “desperate” or “creepy” for approaching guys and ironically, also bullied for dating below my social status. Now that I found the love of my life by actively approaching him, I’m grateful I maintained the confidence to do so after years of being told to wait and let men approach me. That’s just not who I am. Also, I just think that women’s livelihoods are just as much at stake AND that women’s careers are just as important as men’s. Can you understand why I think th…

I hate to argue with anecdotes, but I pursued my shy and nerdy older boyfriend and I’m glad I did. Check my post history, I’m sure I’ve posted our story at some point, also there’s a lot of cute pictures of our dog. Basically this: he was being polite to a friend of a friend who was new in town and I had to be persistent and very obvious for him to notice that I was interested. Not all men are creeps and not all women are shy and wait to be approached. There is such amazing, breathtaking diversi…

I apologize if it seemed like I was making excuses for them, I guess I’m just trying to see it in a pragmatic light.

Isn’t that the argument for the opposite side too?

I don’t think going back to ancient practices will be beneficial for either sex. And I disagree with your assumption that women neither approach men now, nor will they ever. I think your quip on a “new social contract” is actually rapidly becoming reality, and it’s wonderful to see. I would love to see women never be shamed for approaching men, but I think we are definitely moving towards a society where it is socially acceptable for women to pursue men romantically. I also disagree with your la…

Well, I definitely don’t feel like it’s “our fault,” and I acknowledge that this is the perpetuation of the systematic oppression of women but it’s also the reality of the next challenge we face. The question now is how do we deal with it? How do we ensure that women will be hired and allowed to participate in the economy as equals?

My personal feelings about this is just disappointment and frustration. I’m a feminist and I didn’t participate in the #metoo movement, but not because I didn’t support women speaking out about workplace harassment, just because I felt uncomfortable sharing something deeply personal like that on social media. However, this post is not at all surprising to me because I’ve heard it from businessmen elsewhere too. It’s certainly a case of unintended consequences and I think feminism would be remiss…

Playing the Devil's advocate here for the sake of debate: Isn't this only funny because it's unexpected? Society doesn't expect women to desire men like men desire women so this is a upset to the status quo and therein lies the humor. Not because she's "getting away with it" but just because men naturally desire to grab nice looking butts and women don't. So this girl acts like a man and it's funny, not sexual harassment.

These are also good tips on how to avoid raping someone, which is nice.

Maybe you didn't see it, but I know several women who enlisted after that. Anecdotal evidence I know.

I didn't say women need an all women space. I simply inquired as to what separation you all deem necessary or appropriate, if any. I didn't harp on it, I simply pointed out your hypocrisy.

It is kinda funny that feminists all want affirmative consent, and this is like, pretty close to just getting affirmative consent and not having sex with a woman unable to consent.

You realize that women weren't allowed in combat roles until the last couple years, right?

Also often this statement is applied to people who should be in the process of becoming adults instead of being coddled into perpetual childhood.

I agree, social exclusion when combined with the professional arena leads to disadvantages for the excluded group.

That's a lot of speculation right there. You know the saying "Behind every great man is a great woman." Your last paragraph is bordering on male superiority and that's ridiculous. Men and women are equal in capability and ingenuity.

This infantilizes boys and men and prevents them from developing mature and appropriate self control mechanisms. They should be punished as much as girls do for acting outside of appropriate boundaries as children.

Can you clarify gender exclusionary groups?

Interesting point. Ok. So voluntary by those excluding? Or those being excluded? Who would voluntarily be excluded if they had a choice to be included?

I understand that, that's not my question. My question was, what separation is appropriate and fair?

The questions this brings up for me are: What segregation between genders is appropriate? Where can the two sexes have spaces that are theirs only? Aren't women sometimes excluded from spaces geared towards men? (I'm thinking some subreddits and the like) Shouldn't women celebrate their femininity and unique qualities as women? Isn't that part of helping men celebrate their unique masculine qualities as well?

You're welcome :) it's good that you acknowledge your jealousy is irrational. Insecurity and jealousy is a huge turnoff for both sexes, so your relationship is almost guaranteed to improve if you get it under control. My boyfriend loves that I'm not a jealous person because I trust him unquestionably. And he goes out of his way to make sure I feel secure in our relationship in return. Plus I know he would rather be at home with me than somewhere else because that's where the good sex and good fo…

Self affirmation of your attractiveness, desirability, and relationship when ever you start to feel jealous can help stop the emotions from compounding. Try to nip it in the bud by conquering the emotional response with rational thought and repetition.
