I see a lot of comments about the woman being attracted to unintelligent men and having a mothering tendency, both of which is true. But I posted it here because there is a subtext, one which says women are attracted to people who display traits of being fun, adventurous, not being self-conscious, confident, having fun friends, caring, sweet and kind, all of which I assume this guy was, except being good with his brains. When the above mentioned qualities are combined with traits such as intelli…

Sex is most powerful in the mind, and to men, in the mind, women have a lot of power, not only to arouse, but to give worth, self-worth, meaning, initiation, sustenance, everything. Seeing this more clearly through my experience, I began to wonder whether the most extreme men resort to violence with women because they think that's all they have, their one pathetic advantage over all she seems to hold above them. I make no excuses for this. There are none. But as a man I felt vaguely attuned to t…

So very true. My style has always been talk to as many women in as little time as possible. But lately I've changed it to staying locked in a set even though it doesn't seem to go anywhere in the beginning. You know what? After couple of mins, things change. The conversation becomes more interesting and questions and interest becomes bi-directional. Stay in and plow through my friends and eject only when you've given 100% with no avail.

Also beware your depression will try to sneak in. Sometimes it will come back with ten fold strength. Stay strong. You need continous motivation and need to be constantly working on yourself. Cognitive behavior therapy based on mindfulness does wonders, and when mixed with meditation it is very powerful. What really changes a depressed mind is a change from inside out. A complete one. It might happen overnight or might take years. Keep working on yourself. Stay strong my friend.

I believe the general rule in psychology is thoughts "precede" emotions (not proceed). Google it. That would change your whole theory wouldn't it?

Well you have to prime the meat before you cook it. In my early days I've done this and it has a lot of potential to backfire since the person is taken by surprise. I'd say some kino, flirty teasy talk should create a sexual tension between you too and you can go in for the kiss after that. Alcohol certainly helps loosen up and even if it din't work you can always "blame" the alcohol. The only time the direct kissing works is when she's also as much into you as you are. Good luck.

I dont think it works that way. I mean, if you don't care about the relationship that you are in, what are you gaining from it? I think it's basically the person for whom the relationship isn't number 1 priority in their life that has the most control over it. Your relationship is still important to you but it doesn't dictate your entire life. You have friends, hobbies, a plan and a purpose. Sure if the relationship fails, there's a sense of loss but you get back on your feet in no time. That is…

Dude get over that idea. Your virginity is not something pure or sacred. And the hooker is not a dirty crack whore with an infested vagina. Spend some extra $$ and get a nice escort. Get over it this bump. So much ahead of you.

You sound like a pissed off teen. The rage only will get you so far before you crash and burn. Grace, values, balanced mental and physical health(as opposed to mindlessly tiring yourself because you want to bang "bitches") will take you on more meaningful journey.

Also another tool one should posses in the toolkit is Empathy. It goes with hand in hand with niceness. Being emphatic and being able to see things from other person's perspective while still holding your individual thoughts and opinions can be a very powerful quality to posses. TL;DR: Be a good human.

I don't think women "betasize" men, men who fall into relationships get super cozy and betasize themselves. They put on a few pounds, lose the edge and fail the constant shit-tests. Then the women find that they've lost that initial attraction to this guy and seek something elsewhere.

Dude, I was in Santana Row in San Jose last night and had the same thought. That place was filled with materialistic women and uber douchey macho guys. People that I'd have absolutely no connection with. Needless to say I din't open a single set. Such a turn off. But then again come to think of it, I've had good times in clubs in SF (especially public works, monarch). I guess it depends on the locality and the kind of music they play. tldr; Santana Row = Never again!

Very true, just like I said elsewhere on seddit, just as how we how a sex drive, we also have a "love drive". Just like we need to find people to have sex with we also need to find people to have very intimate connections with. Don't ignore either of those needs. Watch this insightful talk by Helen Fisher

For men, It would fall more in the area of qualification. But thats more or less what both sexes use during initial courtship. More by women than the average guy. Average guy is just happy the girl is paying attention to him. But higher caliber men would want the girl to qualify herself before he invests anytime with her. For example, I might look to see if you have a sense of humor. Can you not only laugh at my jokes but also crack a few? What kind of music taste you have (huge for me)? Are you…

There are different camps and view points that attempt to describe what love is. It is a very tricky subject. The scientific camp attempts to objectively describe this very subjective and personal feeling using hormones. The basic premise is that love is a feeling when certain hormones get secreted in our brain. Primarily oxytocin and other endorphins. This was seen as a necessary step towards pair-bonding that is essential for the survival of an offspring. There is truth to that. But no one kne…

Desire is good, pushes you to do stuff for yourself and the good of the universe. It is attachement(to things, people, outcome) whicj is a consequence of this desire that is bad. Avoid attachment especially to material and trivial things.

Really good response. I could see that your answer comes from a lot of reflection and experience. I also wanted to know what people such as yourself, who have been in the field for a longer time, think about marriage and settling down. Does being with a lot of women make it hard for you to settle down with one? Do you think there will always be a better one to settle down in the future? Has love/relationships lost it's magic?

Could you elaborate more. Why do you prefer an evening without sex? I agree sex is bloated up in our culture and even here, people are obsessed over "F-closes". I want to hear from an experienced man his views on relationship with women and how sex blends into the equation.

Watch the movie shame. Observe the protagonist. He is the epitome of tall dark & handsome. Women become wet just by his mere presence. He's got all the traits of an alpha yet he's easily the most quietest person in the room. The only bad thing about the character in the movie is that he is addicted to sex+porn.

Rooshv is the worst place to get relationship advice. It's bordering on misogyny. It sometimes can be entertaining to read about his escapades, but I'd never take advice on how sustain a good relationship from him. Heartiste is somewhat on the same boat as Rooshv (with the intense hatred for anything "feminist"), but there are some good points he makes. But still I'd take everything from them with a grain, nay, with a rock of salt.

Exactly, as far as I know being mean works only on girls who have low self esteem or image issues. But teasing in a friendly way, not saying "yes" to everything the girl says, being in your own way a complete man will make you attractive to any girl out there.

I've been living in SF for 2 years, as far as I know the number of men are far more higher. It's likely because of the tech industry.

I've got some questions, if you don't mind: Do you go out usually with the intent of getting a girl or just to hang with buddies and have fun? Do you ever get bummed out about this whole process? Would you ever want to settle down in a good relationship? How's your online game, any pointers there? From reading your post, one can assume that attraction is an instantaneous creation. Don't you think a person can work on creating (and not just increasing) this attraction with another with good game?…

Careful there. Don't open up too much. I would say from experience that you work on building more mystery and intrigue before opening up. Hell yeah, actually being humorous and lively can get you far more ahead than mystery. Those are the things that make a girl want you in bed. Opening up though is a great way to make a connection with a girl. A girl wants to know that you've opened up only to her. She wants to be special. And if you open up before sex, she might think you do that with pretty m…

Just be in a playful mood. If she's waiting for you in the bar, approach her from behind and close her eyes with your hands and ask her to guess who it is. Obvisouly she should be expecting you at this point, else she might freak out. This will create an instant impression that you're playful. Don't think too much, just put on your best smile and be in a playful mood, rest will take care of itself.

Staring games, tickle fight, piggyback ride to the next bar, all this probably after the first round of drinks edit: these approaches are best on a date or when you already got to know the person, I guess OP is asking about cold approaching.

Been there. Friends are essential, I love my guys. They're fun to be around. But what happens is that sometimes some of them just bitch and complain about lives. They don't challenge you. And when you try to something interesting, some of them look up to you but some of them will try to bring you down. Call it human behavior, but people don't like change. Avoid those people. Start by listening to how two people talk. At work, your campus, on the bus, in the bar. Listen to what a normal conversation looks like. Most people ask yes/no questions, state a fact or make a joke now and then. This is going to be the bare minimum needed. And once you start the momentum going, everyday is going to be an improvement.

This will happen with everything. Not just pickup. You get a girlfriend, you'd be bored in 6 months. You get a new ferrari, you'd be bored and less enthusiastic after a certain period. There's no simple answer. It might sound cliched but you have to make it fun. It's a game. Players play the game. Rejoice in the play. And know that everytime you do, you are improving yourself. Look back, reflect, calibrate, improve yourself and push forward. Stagnation is death.

Good answer, unless you've built yourself a harem and you're sexually and emotionally satisfied in every way, this apathy sounds like a trick played by your ego to protect itself. It's unwilling to face rejection and is tired of not getting any rewards. You can try changing a few parameters to the game like venues or method of approach. See if that creates a spark.

I do hot yoga, it's kinda impossible to talk during the class and afterwards everyone is all sweaty and in a hurry to head home. May be other yoga classes are different. I'd suggest you try a book shop, plenty of opportunities for opinion/situational openers. Or carry some beer to a park on a sunny day with a friend. Befriend a group. Everyone likes beer.

I think it's best to show your vulnerable side after you've built enough attraction and comfort with that person. More like a post coital conversation. Don't do this on your first/second date. Try to keep the date more fun. Showing vulnerability early on has personally never worked for me, it just kills the attraction immediately. Edit: Dig through this thread http://redd.it/ojaur to find out more.

I get it. You don't have to be loud to be interesting. Change the scene and try hanging out with people in a book/film club, library or a quiet dive bar. If you're more intellectually inclined, find places that fit you. But even if you change the scene, the rules of attraction all still apply. So wherever you go be sure to get your game on (and calibrate as you go).

I think the author means that we should mature mentally. That doesn't mean you live subdued life stuck in cubicle. It means, you go out have fun 3 to 4 nights a week and still be productive the next day. It means you don't feel the urge to get mad drunk like how you felt when you were younger. But once in a while you can let your gaurd down and have a really good time. Its about finding the balance. The negative thought pattern is a self-reinforcing pattern. The more you think about it, the stronger it becomes, the more you try to fight it (with anger etc) again the stronger it becomes.
