In some places not allowing someone to leave can be prosecuted as kidnapping. Physically blocking him or grabbing him to stop him from leaving adds battery to the charges.

Child support in Texas is typically paid until the child is 18, or finishes high school, whichever comes last. If a child falls behind in school (like my youngest did) you could be paying child support well beyond the child's 18th birth month (like I will). My child will be almost 20 before I'm done paying child support.
