You're right. As with all analogies, it does have a limit. My intent was to demonstrate the scale.

for male-lurkers, here's a non-gender analogy for this problem: it's like corporations blaming the climate crisis on people for not recycling plastic bottles. People probably shouldn't throw away single use plastics, but about 100 corporations are responsible for 71% of global emissions and the fact that corporations try to shift the blame on consumers is unconscionable. Here in the analogy, just so it's especially clear: polluting corporations -> men polluting consumers -> women pollution -> in…

I'll be the Jim to your Pam. (in reference to The Office) Translation: I want/can't recognize an unhealthy relationship. Basically they're asking women to make a shit ton of concessions for them and that they're okay with buying a house with zero input from their wife. Also, Jim is a gross roommate. I never understood people who liked Jim--his red flags were so bright they were neon

I personally think FDS community could work on being more intersectional. I think that like many other feminist movements, FDS is based on good intentions but occasionally lacks nuance. Idk whether FDS mods are white or what, but I've noticed that FDS moderators delete comments from time to time...? I feel that's really unnecessary, especially in conversations about intersectionality, because they're artificially shaping the narrative of BIPOC women--FDS is so proud of amplifying the voices of a…

yeah, same. I feel like OP could have been more careful titling the post because it kind of implies that women should strive to be less emotionally intelligent.

omg, same experience. generally my answer to the question would be no, but this one special hookup was amazing. It's really hard for me to orgasm when I feel shy, but he definitely did try--we rolled around for hours. The next time we met up, he actually called attention to the fact that I had not come and asked me what he could do to make me come. The amount of effort and attention was romantic as fuck.

Jesus, wtf, this is so sad that women are socialized to feel this way. Reminder to all the queens on here that thinking about leaving is a legitimate reason to leave.

this is misinformation. Yes, you are right that marginalized women are forced to work in sex parlors. However, of the three massage places, only one of them was suspected to be a sex parlor. The only two were simply massage places. This is information available through the news. Also, I am quite familiar with Korean massage places as I have friends in the industry and sometimes a massage place is just a massage place I think you are forgetting the context of the problem which is that the law is …

tl;dr: A person's identity as an Asian person and as a woman are not compartmentalized--it's a package deal and the fact that the law enforcement is acting "colorblind" is bullshit. why does NO ONE acknowledge misogyny like it doesn’t exist?!!! Excuse me?? This post is disinformation. Misogyny does exist. The shooter claimed that he is a sex addict and that he targeted his victims because they tempted him and enabled his addiction. He killed not just any women, but Asian women. Why does he not h…

It felt harsh, but I decided to end things. OP (or anyone who is more socially skilled than I am), can you explain why you considered your response as "harsh"? I'm someone who happened to live an FDS life before I was aware of FDS, and it's hard for me to understand why people say ignoring someone who disrespects me is "mean" or "harsh"

Why do guys have to remind women that we're physically weaker every chance they get? it's not like they have anything else going for them ...was my first thought lmao

This is really sad. I also have a brother, and whenever my mom asks me to help in the kitchen, I ask why she can't have my brother do it especially when he's physically in the kitchen and I'm working in my room. Thankfully, my mom has a lightbulb moment like, oh yeah, he can do it too! and turns her attention to my brother. Hopefully OP of AITA's parents can see why their actions are unfair.

That even the most intelligent, strategic military officers lack the introspection to fix this You sure that they lack introspection? Seems like they're pretty aware and that they just choose not to be a better partner because the system already works in their favor

I want to unpack the first point: A lot of them tend to [overestimate] the value and/or originality of their insights I think this may contribute to the gender pay gap and why professions start to see diminished wages once women join the field. For example, as a person in STEM I see guys being like "I know how to <data science buzzwords>" and they think they're such hot shit. Dude, it's just linear regression. Stop trying to pump your ego. I've been playing piano for two decades, and this dude w…

You won't get even close to big unless you lift serious serious weight. I think this depends on your bodytype. I gain muscle extremely quickly, so I totally avoid working out my calves and shoulders because they get very large. I actually let my calves atrophy at one point because they got so large and I felt super self-conscious about them. However, I agree that women should lift weights as it does help with preventing osteoporosis. I generally do a lot of glute and ab workouts as they don't ch…

I think that the author wrote her to be very...dependent(?) on Eren. Like her entire driving force seems to be staying with Eren. That's the reason why she joined the army, it's why she does a lot of things. Obviously, can't ignore how she is a literal kick-ass, but yeah, I wish she had a more realistic motivation.

ahhhhh, y'all should watch Attack on Titan! None of the women are sexualized. With the exception of Mikasa's shallow character, there's a lot of badass women like Hange and Sasha who are defined by their bravery, intellect, and love for potatoes.

oh, this reminds me of a thought I had when I was younger: Sia probably wears the oversized wig because some executive told her (or perhaps she has internalized?) that since she is not beautiful in a conventional way, people would judge her talent less favorably.

okay, but that's the problem. Why should she run away? She did nothing wrong. We should immediately remove the male antagonist.

Yes, I am experiencing the same thing. I used to accept the majority of requests as a college student because prior to these experiences, random recruiters would message me to add me to their recruiting pools. Now, I do not to accept linkedin request from any man that I personally don't know. It's a shame that a couple bad apples ruined my willingness to interact with an entire gender, but I would rather not take the chance of being harassed. I've also been stalked on LinkedIn. I wish LinkedIn w…

I think this is an important issue that nobody really talks about. Yes, there is still sexism, but we've made important progress in redefining femininity. Women can play sports, win the Nobel Prize in a hard science (congratulations, Dr.s Jennifer Doudna and Emmanuelle Charpentier!), and climb the corporate ladder. From my observations, I don't think men have been able to redefine masculinity as successfully. We all know that the majority of women's oppression are at the hands of men. Although i…

Not All Men Are Like That That’s why I said a small group of decent men exist. At the same time there is a LARGEEE group of them that will not even do half of the things my dad had done to me growing up. We know. It's obvious. However, when you say NAMALT, you are drawing attention away from the problem that OP has highlighted and rhetorically negating her concern. Sort of like, if you had lung cancer and tell your doctor "I have breast cancer!" but then your doctor was like "Yeah, but not all o…

iT's jUsT a jOkE! " What bothers me most about adults using the just joking defense, however, is that someone is trying to not only escape blame, but reassign it. Instead of listeners reprimanding a speaker who says something cruel, insensitive, or wrong, they are told they are being overly sensitive for taking offensive. " --Laura Tropp
