Yes, thank you! I got the hell out and turned my life upside down/halted everything in it so I could learn how to stop living in the cycle of abuse. My DV-focused therapist said she was proud of me and that I was headed in the right direction last week, so there’s that!

I’m so proud of you!!! I empathize deeply. I left a very similar situation, only it wasn’t my child, it was my stepchild. He beat the biomom even when she was pregnant, and she was so scared of him coming after her, she willingly gave him 50-50 custody. That child had so little good in life... I’ve experienced a LOT of gnarly men, and if you’re open to advice, I have one piece that I think will take you far: do not tell him what you’re looking for. He may tell you, because you will not bend to his will and pretend to be everything he wants in order to secure him. I’ve found that men who refuse to chat via messages first, and immediately want to meet, are the type who need to go off your visual cues to decide how to act.
