Even your best laid out plan may result in your son being some drug addict loser or your daughter being a slut. Roll of the dice sometimes.

Childfree guy here. Got snipped a while ago. Glad that I will never be on the moneyhook and fucked if a future wife or gf decides to bail on me with my kid, and glad said kid won't have to suffer the split.

The real estate market fluctuates too. And location is also a factor. During the crisis in 2008-2010, I worked with a guy who couldn't move his family from PA (to TX) because they couldn't sell their home due to it being very undervalued. Kept paying the mortage. Rented an apt in TX. Kept flying back and forth each weekend to see his family.

I've owned a home (for 2 years) and have been renting since. I prefer renting. When you buy a home, you have to pay property taxes. How is the property tax money used? I know some goes to local schools. I'm not having any kids so it doesn't benefit me. Say you own your home for 5 years and you pay X in property taxes a year. Say you want to sell your home. Will the (sale price of your home) - (5x plus your loan) result in any significant profit? Maybe, maybe not. If you have to pick up and move …

I have a lot of friends in my home country that I use to "stay in touch" with. But you're right, I don't talk to 90% of them and probably won't see any of them for the rest of my life. However, for the other 10%, I do like to be able to send a message to them if I'm in town.

Why are you researching this? Hope you don't need to find out from experience, you masochist.

Too many places left in this world I haven't traveled to to even consider ending life. But that's just me.

I bet if I told a "I love travel" woman that I once traveled the world for a year (including 3 months in Europe) for $20k, she'd still pick the wedding to blow $20k on over the possibility of long-term travel.

Came in here to post the same thought. Women and their desire to blow $20-30k on one big party is ridiculous.

Not sure if the story is true or not. But the issue of kids should always be resolved before marriage. Or maybe she lied to him. I wouldn't be surprised.

I don't mean that having generic hobbies is boring. What I meant is that, ppl out there could stand to spend a few extra minutes to be imaginative and provide details. You like travel? Why not say "I'd love to visit New England, Spain, Hungary, and Italy." You like food? Why not say "I like to try a new dish every time I visit my favorite restaurant" or "My favorite foods are..." You get the idea. Don't just say "I like travel and food."

The problem I have with dating apps is that every girl lists "food, travel, laughing" and other generic shit as their favorite things. I mean, who doesn't love food, travel, laughing? Rarely do you find someone who puts something thoughtful and unique enough that makes them stand out.

I believe a lot of it has to do with the way Japanese culture treats women. Women who get married are usually expected to stay home to raise a family while the salarymen go put in long hours, come home late (maybe after visiting some seedy joints for you know what), and then treat their women like 2nd class citizens. Women want careers these days.

Got a buddy who didn't want kids but his wife did. He had his first last week. Told me this morning he may not be cut out for this but the only thing I could do was encourage him to hang in there.

r/childfree I don't want kids either. I prefer my freedom and money to raising a child.

I made these choices even before I found this subreddit. Glad to find similar-minded folks out there.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
