I am 2.3 years into temp orders. This will define the grounds on which the battle will take place and where the actual status quo will reside. Go all out here.

She had long decided to go through with whatever or whoever she's doing when she asked for and initiated the separation. It'll have to play out. Likely in her mind she's already divorced and is acting as such, the rest is paperwork - and she's knows there's a clock. You do you, knowing that's what's happening. It sucks that this is happening to you and your kids.

Yup. If you want something you find a way, not excuses. And it takes two people to make a relationship work. These eb and flow surely over time. But this is dragging it out because it’s currently more comfortable than the alternative for her. If that’s working for you - great. If that’s not what it is for you - time to start. Shes already said she wants a divorce - that was not said lightly. I would guess to her the relationship was over the minute she said that.

It sucks. An unbelievable, crushing at times amount. I know it does. Here’s the question. What are you going to do with those two weeks? You’ve got time before you see your kids again to show them the best version of yourself you can be right now. Whatever that means for you. Focus on what you can control, even if it’s just your approach right now. And get back on meds if they’re needed my friend. You got this.

Or put it in a signed public facing court affidavit!

Holy shit. Two years ago she read it, and then bought copies for all her married friends.

100% I don’t get it. Like… you can’t cherry pick the parts that work for you.

Can’t offer you that. But I can tell you I’m stepping into the unknown with you. Both filed last week, not dissimilar to your situation except I held out for an extra year, and there are kids and a forever house. It hurts, it’s scary. There is no bargaining, no rationalizing it back - what you thought you were holding on to is already gone. The ONLY thing you can do is put yourself in the best position you can moving forward. But also give yourself time to be in shock and then grieve. Godspeed g…

I have been translating “I don’t want to take anything away from you” all wrong. What I’ve discovered it actually meant for the last 12 months is “I don’t want anything to change for ME” the minute I started asking about equitable but separate time with the kids and a supportive but actual fair and sane financial plan - I’m the worst person in the world and we have to have attorneys moving forward. And here we are in the shit.

Yo! Great question. Dealing with some of this, and trying to remain stoic/positive/ focused on the kids. But then the name calling and unfounded accusations, and guilt trips start flying. And I’m still trying to emotionally disengage and not bite. Some days I’m a better stoic than others, and a sideways comment slips out. Moving to text and email for sure helped. But then adding time between knowing a message arrived, then pause and do something else. Read it, but do not respond. Process the emo…

Yeah… I get this one. It’s the joy - the adventure seeking - the risky, the fun - all the things we shared before kids - and she systematically shut down within the family because it was too much anxiety while we had to learn how to raise them. Now that can’t come from me.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
