This is great advice normally. And it's exactly what I told myself before every visit since the first incident occurred. and unfortunately things only got worse. I can't unseen the patterns I've seen, and unfortunately I'm not past my anger and resentment. I don't want to set myself up for more grief by not being ready in state of mind and strategy.

I'd never really considered this tbh. I don't think I've ever had a close relationship or any relationship with a narcissist. I guess step 1 is to educate myself on the signs. Thanks for the advice

Thank you! I just edited my post, thanks for pointing out this rules, now I know. DF has acknowledged that his family is "dysfunctional but they're not malicious and they're loving ". He agrees with the wrongs I've outlined, but sees them as misunderstandings and everyone learning how to be a family. I disagree and see things differently -- there are very limited ways for me to interpret their behaviours. We've resolved the wedding issue -- we are planning a fun party next year with our friends …
