I wish more people would realize this. She's talking about two different things here.

She had already stopped when he hit her. He wasn't denying a pussy pass, he was being an asshole.

Why do we allow someone to appeal before we put them to death? Because we're about to kill them, that's why. If you're looking for statutory authority, check the AEDPA of 1996.

That's incorrect. The drug cocktails cost around $100 or less ($83 in Texas in 2011, for example). It's primarily due to the cost of defending appeals. http://www.forbes.com/sites/kellyphillipserb/2014/05/01/considering-the-death-penalty-your-tax-dollars-at-work/

You're 100% correct. The American justice system is based primarily (although not entirely, of course) on punishment and retribution. There are those of us here, myself included, who think that society would be better served if we adopted a model more similar to those in Europe.

Exactly, appeals are incredibly expensive. Plus it's two to three times more expensive to keep someone on death row than in prison. But it's mostly the appeals costs. http://www.forbes.com/sites/kellyphillipserb/2014/05/01/considering-the-death-penalty-your-tax-dollars-at-work/

It's not about how clairvoyant the judge is. It's because her crime was so heinous that she doesn't even get the possibility of release, no matter how amended or reformed they may be.

Life without parole costs less than executing someone. Do you think we should just give her probation and community service?

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
