I don't know how common this pattern is, but lots of rape stories emerge when a girl starts dating a guy and he finds out that she had sex with another guy before. The new boyfriend is unhappy so the story eventually turns into my ex raped me. I think it's ridiculous that past sex has to be rape for a guy to date a girl, but it's understandable (not excusable) in a culture that prizes female virginity so much.
