My God, what a disgusting thing to say on a day specifically used to celebrate fathers. The watermark is accurate.

Brigading is the mass movement of votes when a view-oriented subreddit, such as /r/MensRights, links to another post on reddit which it agrees/disagrees with. It's bad because it fucks up the natural movement of the community (what people go on that community to see) and also because SRS does it.
/r/MensRights11/06/13 04:07 PM

DON'T BRIGADE. DON'T BRIGADE. DO. NOT. BRIGADE. Please.

Sarongs, like kilts, aren't comparable, as they're traditionally worn by men as well in the societies in which they are prevalent.

The portion that is removed in female circumcision is more like removing the entire head of the penis than the foreskin. This is a very common generalization used by anti-FGM, pro-MGM advocates to cloud the real meaning of FGM in the context of comparison. It's also false.

It's not from the Danes, but the information is bizarre and inaccurate. The word 'father' began to be spelt as such in the 1500s, but it's a Proto-Indo-European word.

An overwhelming majority of victims and survivors are female Why are they allowed to perpetuate this crap? They can do the work they're doing without saying stupid and factually incorrect shit like that and thereby whitewashing so much of the issue. I'm in the calling-names phase of a Reddit argument (it's natural), and I'll just say this: Why the fuck would you bother to speak with someone with the name 'mrasarefascists'?

I have to say it: you sound kinda crazy.
/r/MensRights29/12/12 04:29 AM

Why? The subreddit is called /r/MensRights, not /r/HumanRights. We deal with a field (the rights of men) that we believe feminism does not deal with. There's no reason to focus on both.
/r/MensRights29/12/12 04:27 AM
4

I don't see MRAs doing that much, actually. Can you give some examples? If there are, I'm inclined to call them nutjobs rather than sensible MRAs. Even if we do, it's better to be hypocritical about it and keep this an actual MensRights subreddit rather than forcedly add a women's perspective to everything.
/r/MensRights29/12/12 04:25 AM

Eh, I suppose my post was actually a little ambiguous. Fine. I'll say I'm using the word misguided to indicate that the ideological revolutions of the 18th and 20th were the destructive ones, which England has never had. Apologies.

Okay, here I go, diving into a wave of bullshit because the bull asked me to. Oh, well. The thing is, they even describe themselves as a joke subreddit, an /r/circlejerk but not funny. The problem is, they actually do 'activist' things, like letterbombing and so on. It's fairly disgusting, and the only reason Reddit puts up with them is because they have intimate admin associations.

Disgusting. What the fuck, America?

Okay. Next time I'm commenting, I'll write [evidence] or [lack of evidence] next to EVERY SINGLE ASSERTION I MAKE [lack of evidence].
/r/MensRights12/09/12 07:53 PM

And why is that wrong? If a normal straight man would look on and desire them, why not a rapist? What is different? Nobody puts 'I'm going to be a rapist, I'll rape this person' in their minds on the first offence- unless they are already what used to be called 'a hardened criminal'. It develops. That's why it's called opportunistic rape.
/r/MensRights12/09/12 07:48 PM
1

I apologise for my wording. I'm using the admittedly vulgar 'I smell bullshit' as a rather colloquial and down-toned version of 'that seems unlikely to me', and I'm sorry for that, it was too rash. Still, I don't see any passages other than that in which I'm claiming my gut feeling to be superior.
/r/MensRights12/09/12 07:47 PM
1

Well, I'm gay. But that's irrelevant, I'll just ignore the 'your' in this case. Why are opportunistic rapists any different from the average straight man, except with the lack of human sympathy and general disregard for societal norms that committing a crime inherently acknowledges?
/r/MensRights12/09/12 07:45 PM
1

As far as I know, a lot of rapists aren't actually cold, calculating Terminators. The fact is, a loser in society is unlikely to get with the hot girl at the party, and also has a serious deficiency in normal sympathy (due to whatever causes); aren't these just the environments for rape? At the place itself. If she leaves alone, she's alone. Some are, some aren't. See above. You've just repeated what you've said- that my analogy is illogical- without describing why. I do credit you for putting i…
/r/MensRights12/09/12 07:43 PM

I didn't say my source was superior to his. Wow, you people have a serious S&M thing for strawmen.
/r/MensRights12/09/12 07:40 PM
1

Do you have some serious reading comprehension issue? I never said anything like that. Having someone be with you in a group is an obvious advantage. Attracting attention is totally fine, but it's like surfboarding in South Africa; while fun and almost all of the time safe, it does increase the risk of something bad happening.
/r/MensRights12/09/12 07:39 PM
1

Honestly, no, I don't have any statistical source. I mean, currently I'm just trying to use some common sense here, and it is, if you like 'my gut feeling'. But sigil1 hasn't come up yet with a statistical source for his belief that rapists are more likely to choose a quiet, plain girl, and so my view on the matter is unchanged.
/r/MensRights12/09/12 07:35 PM
1

Not all rapists have personality disorders, in the psychological sense.
/r/MensRights12/09/12 07:35 PM
1

...like?
/r/MensRights12/09/12 07:33 PM
1

That comment basically means the exact same thing as 'No, what I said is true.' What you said was a total strawman.
/r/MensRights12/09/12 07:22 PM
1

Why not?
/r/MensRights12/09/12 07:19 PM
1

So I presume you can't read links?
/r/MensRights12/09/12 07:18 PM
-1

I know I'm committing a fallacy here, but I'd like you to point me to a study finding no correlation of rape and dress. Furthermore, I would say that your argument actually goes against your conclusion. The idea that a woman is noticed and becomes a centre of attention if she dresses provocatively is presumably conducive to the likelihood of her rape.

Right, not someone that a predator is looking for. Um, exactly someone that a predator is looking for. What do you think they're looking for? So is what you are saying here is women shouldn't attract attention and come and go from bars alone if they don't want to be raped? Yep, that's exactly what I was saying

memorable and attracting attention Exactly.

Alternate scenario: girl comes to place alone, makes herself centre of attention, is noticed by everyone, decides the place is lame, only stays for a few drinks, leaves alone.

Yes. What's wrong with it?

And its pretty obvious that predators are not going to be selecting people that are the center of attention. Why?

If you as a citizen say ''lock your car door if you don't want to be robbed'', you as a citizen are saying that we live in a sort of robbing culture where status of car can easily trigger a robbery and robbery is a logical conclusion of dressing in a certain style. When in reality, millions of people don't lock their cars every day and only a tiny fraction of them are robbed, along with another very small number of people that do lock their cars.

If a woman is dressed very eye catchingly, every eye is going to be on her and that makes her less likely to be selected by someone looking for vulnerable potential victims. Um, any statistical source for this? I smell bullshit.

What this fails to account for is that the victim actually can minimise the odds of a crime occurring. That's the point of the message you replied to. The fact is, totally reasonable advice like 'dress cautiously' is most often dismissed as victim-blaming, which it isn't. The above messages aren't blaming victims of car accidents, murders or robberies. They're giving advice to non-victims as to how to minimise their chances of victimhood.

Don't you know? It's because rape is not about sex, it's about pure power. Men are inherently power-bent, and immediately naturally want to exert dominance over women! Duh!

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
