Blending in can definitely be a benefit in the workplace. Unfortunately if the higher-ups know you're a single guy, you're less likely to be promoted or hired over a guy with a wife and kids, since the assumption is that the family man has much less flexibility in leaving a job if he gets sick of it. I've worn a cheap wedding band to interviews, and kept a pic of some random thot in my wallet if people press me about it.

So true. I remember in my teenage years reading Ralph Waldo Emerson and thinking about how much the "American dream" of a wife, kids and a McMansion sounded less and less desirable. Didn't realize it at the time, just something about it didn't seem right, like there was something nefarious hidden underneath the facade of happy family pictures and couples on social media.
