I disagree. It answers it slightly. And there are many ways to leave society. I felt some sarcasm in your question- the bit about living self-sufficiently on a boat in international waters- so after writing a more direct answer, I deleted it.

Many ways to leave a sinking ship, my friend

I've heard passing trans men talk about how awful it is to constantly feel like they are treated as dangerous and how no one wants to talk to them or smile and women cross the road from them, they feel like they are constantly doing something wrong. I wish someone would amplify this message. It is fucking awful. Treated like a potential pedophile if you smile at a kid on the bus, treated like a rapist or a stabber if you walk down a dark street, people questioning and laughing at your sexuality …

There are definitely female necrophiliacs. I saw a documentary about it.

Sorry, but what is an Ultra? I’ve not heard the term, and it’s impossible to Google due to the many meanings of the word

Really interesting. I’m sorry about some of the negative things you’ve experienced. Was it a surprise to realise that, as a man, you can become a target for violence due to some tiny or imagined slight? I’m guessing it’s noticeably different from before you transitioned?

Probably shouldn't have become a discourse in the first place. The sample size is tiny. Can't be extrapolated from. Its not a scientific study, it's the opinion of a few people who haven't really thought it through. It's not difficult to find groups of people who believe bizarre things, but they aren't a logical basis for a discussion of societal morals.

I’m not annoyed. It’s the opinion of about 12 women, out of however many he asked. It means nothing, represents nothing. But anyone saying they’d rather be with a wild bear than a human hasn’t really thought it through.

A badge would be helpful. A little badge with a bear on it would be genuinely useful as an idiot filter.

It's true. I saw an old geezer walking a dog the other day, and he was carrying a KNIFE and a SWORD and a BOMB

Balls- pluck with tweezers. Takes a while but they stay smooth. Everything else, scissors or clippers.

Another way that the wage gap argument fails, is that it only applies to those who are paid a disproportionate amount compared to the general populace anyway. I've certainly never been paid more than a woman for doing the same job, and in fact I've received more stigma, from both men and women, for working mostly menial jobs. Like, because I'm a man, I should be a fighter pilot or something. A wage gap between the sexes at higher paid levels, is just a subset of the wider inherent unfairness of …

I completely disagree. My relationships with women, sexual or otherwise have been/are meaningful. You seem to have a very negative view of women.

A bad experience for me- I was in a library. There was a kid there playing a computer game on the library computer. He was about 9 or so I guess. he ran out of money, so had to stop playing, and he said to the librarian that he wanted to continue. I went over to the (male) librarian, and said, 'hey, I'll buy him anouther 30 minutes'. The librarian was very suspicious. 'Do you know him?' 'No' I said. I had a very deprived childhood, where I was desperate for money, I guess I always want to help k…

hahaha! It is, and in a way it works in reverse- I wouldn't want to have a relationship with a woman who labels herself as a feminist.

This is kind of the point I was making. You can call yourself whatever you want, but you can't actually be a male feminist- I think it's complete crap. You are betraying something of yourself if you define yourself as that, something of your basic humanity. I think you are denying your maleness, which is a positive, in the same way that femaleness is a positive. Personally, I'm for equality and egalitarianism- and 'male feminists', if that's what they want to call themselves, are missing the poi…

Mine too. I loathe this radfem idea that I'm a rapist waiting to happen- a concept I heard first from Dworkin. I think putting the very idea out there is a form of abuse. That's how I've experienced it anyway- it has negatively affected my relationships throughout my life.

Great post. I think the root of what got to me about this article, is that it entirely points towards men as being 'the problem'.

Exactly. Personally, I don't even believe you can be a male feminist. The very idea seems absurd to me. You can be a man who believes that both sexes should have equality, but a male feminist? no.

I posted this article because I find the title and the tone utterly patronising. It made me so angry. I can't fully articulate all of my feelings, so I wanted to get views from people here.

Just wanted to comment on one thing- why do you feel like 'the forbidden female'? From my perspective, all viewpoints are welcomed here- even if some of them are argued against vehemently. Personally, I love that women comment here. Women are not the enemy- the enemy is oppression, and that applies to both sexes in different ways.

I disagree- neither sex has a monopoly on intelligence. The areas of expertise may differ, but to say that men are smarter than women, or vice versa, is a nonsense in my opinion. Maybe you just know some dumb women? (or some smart men) ;)

A friend of mine, a lovely guy, got picked up by the police because he was walking his dog in the park, and took a rest in a bunch of trees. He didn't know it was near a primary school, but he got reported anyway. He's on some kind of database now. edit- I want to add one to your list. I can't smile back at a young child who smiles at me on the bus. That would make me suspect, as opposed to being just naturally friendly.

Ok, this may not be a popular view, but I think she invites it on some level. I think she enjoys it in a weird way- the 'victim card'. It's got her a lot of publicity and sympathy. And money too- ching ching! Not that I in any way condone abuse and death threats to a person, but everyone online gets that, whether male or female. I've certainly had it. The more prominent one is, the more it happens. It's not a pleasant experience. But I can't help the feeling that she's feeding off this.

I haven't read Alice Walker's books, but I get the impression she suffered a very abusive childhood. It's a shame this has poisoned her relationship with her daughter, who sounds like a caring and intelligent woman.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
