Taller people are more likely to have a bigger frame thus wider shoulders, wide shoulders are very attractive as much or even more than height. Showoff is just a secondary thing.

I have seen quite enough average men with partners but again most of those guys are too much into giving and doing huge efforts while not getting the same in return. I don't if this would be called betabuxxing.
