I'm curious what you think of this article posted by Slate, on the same subject? It has a somewhat different conclusion, although it agrees that the infographic is misleading.

I am not even sure how to reply to this. Thank you for sharing the link and your perspective on mood & mental disorders. It was - interesting.

It doesn't have to - but it might. I've encountered more than one drunk person who has been unreasonable about something and blown it up when it did not have to be a confrontation. I've also encountered more than one person who feels entitled and reacts disproportionately to being called on their shit. And those encounters, for me, shape my responses when I face similar situations. I don't think that you can lay all of the blame at the door of the guy who lets a woman get away with that kind of …

One on one, but in a public setting, surrounded by people who will notice if a scene is started. I know I'm not a fan of confrontation, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Absolutely, men should stop rewarding this kind of behaviour - I fully agree with you. If this behaviour didn't work, women wouldn't attempt to use it to get drinks. However, we should also be clear on calling out the behaviour as inappropriate, rather than condoning it as a "well, dude didn't have to buy her the drink, it's hi…

Oh, well that makes sense then. I try to avoid chatting guys up at pubs because I don't want them to think I'm fishing for drinks - it's a fine line to walk. I have a great deal of disrespect for women who behave in a manner similar to that promoted by the article.

I don't agree. It can be very hard to act contrary to social expectations. In much the same way some women have trouble blowing a guy off when they're not interested because it's not polite, a lot of men have trouble confronting a woman over something because she might cause a scene and they are socialized to just let it go. Yes, the guy should grab his drink back and go wtf - but it's not always that easy. I think that if I was a guy and had someone walk off with my drink, I'd be a bit shocked …

It's not stealing, as she's not taking anything that wasn't freely given I disagree - several of those points that she offers are at least borderline theft (e.g., taking the guy's drink while on the dance floor).

But - if you leave immediately after buying a drink, how am I supposed to talk to you? Generally I only accept drinks from men that I'm interested in getting to know. Or do you want the woman to come after you? (Not saying that's a bad thing, I'm just trying to figure out your approach.)

yep, definitely does. My buddy is trying to get one in place against his psycho ex-fiancee right now. Hence why I used "person" rather than gendered pronouns.

She can get a restraining order and he can't even go near her I just wanted to point out that this only matters if the person under the restraining order is willing to abide by the law. There have been quite a few news stories about women here in my city in the past couple of years who were murdered by ex-partners who were under restraining orders.

I didn't, until I read your comment - and then I did, and it was perfect.

All I can say is if I ever got jumped by two women and my boyfriend was there with me, he had better step in and save my ass (because, frankly, I'm hopeless when it comes to physical violence. I can take a beating, I just can't dish it out). Anyway, women like that should get smacked back. It's not like he used excessive force on them, and they appear to have started the shit. He only stepped in when they went after his girlfriend.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
