mine was relatively painless after 21 years. We fought for 3 years about what she was doing and the 3rd year she more or less stopped coming home so i hired a lawyer and filed. I did all the paperwork and wrote it up mostly fair and she agreed to everything without a fight and without any changes. I refinanced the house to remove her and give her a lump payout from it. my 401k was written as a specific $$$ amount which at the time of filing was about 50% but by the time the judge signed it was m…

Not sure I completely agree with this but I do understand where it’s coming from. Me personally filed a no fault divorce even though I have proof of affairs to get it done quicker. But my kids was 17 and would have chose to stay with me anyway.

I was married 21 years and kept the house. There were a lot of memories as walked around afterwards especially since she left me with dang near everything ( she moved into an RV). I’ve since remodeled the kitchen and repaint most of the house. After 7 months now, I feel like it’s now mine and don’t reflect on us anymore unless I find a random box stashed somewhere I haven’t gone thru yet. Even then it’s not as hard to deal with. And my daughter is living with me when she’s not at college.

I’m in that situation only I’m keeping the house. Both our names are on the original loan. My bank wouldn’t let me officially start the refi until they had a copy of the final decree showing who gets the house. I assume the same would apply to you but I didn’t have to deal with the support child/spouse.

Congratulations. I'm in the similar situation. Mine just finished 50/50 and no alimony. I kept expecting her to fight or something would change but all my worrying was for nothing, and she moved out. It's definitely a great feeling now that its done.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
