No. I would have, but I got radio silence on Father’s Days and my birthdays. I did remind the kids to remember Mother’s Day the first two times rolled around, but it’s not my job anymore.

This is powerful and so true. I just saved it so I’ll be reminded when I start getting sentimental

$750k, excluding 1000 a month in child support, being responsible for 2/3 of all kids expenses, and currently paying > $90,000 a year for college because my ex never bothered to save for it — with 7 more years to go! Not to mention missing out on her generous pension and the $2m inheritance she got just before she left me.

20 years for me too. I’m slowly accepting that she had checked out 6+ years ago; that her low energy & depression were signs she was processing her emotional withdrawal (and maybe a little guilt?), not menopause or work or other things she attributed it to; that she was not in fact my best friend, or even someone who had my interest at heart; that i’ve lost respect for her for treating me so shabbily, and especially for harming our kids by blowing up their family. Unforgivably selfish.

Marital love is a choice, a verb, not a feeling.

In most states, if you comingle inheritance with marital funds, an adversarial spouse can go after it.

Yep - my stbxw is 55 and starting to show her age - more wrinkles than 60 yr old me - but i can still see her as the 35 year old I fell in love with, so it doesn't bother me. (Plus, she's more attractive than most of her peers) Similar to how one can love an old threadbare dog you had as a puppy more than if someone else's old threadbare dog ended up on your doorstep.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
