I hate her and I want out now!My ex-wife is an alcoholic. And also has a compulsive spending addiction. Along with that comes lies, manipulation and gaslighting. I don’t know who in their right mind would tell you to just deal with it, but obviously someone who has never been in these situations. Obviously you have to weigh all options, including the financial side. But if it’s something you’ve weighed and are good with, you can’t put a price on your peace. But also remember, it’s not over just because you’re divorced. You s… | /r/Divorce_Men | 19/04/25 04:37 PM
Looking for post divorce adviceStarted hitting the gym 4-5 times per week. Worked on myself as much as I could. Also spent a lot of time with my kids and my dog. And weekly therapy as well. You have to find something to keep yourself and your mind occupied. A hobby, time with family/friends, work, etc. to keep those negative thoughts at bay. And avoid contact with your ex unless it’s absolutely necessary. Don’t creep her social media or friends social media. Best thing I learned is being by yourself can get lonely, but it’s a… | /r/Divorce_Men | 17/09/24 07:37 PM
Stuck and need some adviceComing from a fellow officer, here’s my two cents. I’ve been at my current department for 17 years now. I’ve seen a lot of female officers come through our department, some that were married when they started. And I can honestly say I can’t think of one out of my 17 years who is still married to the same man the day they started the academy. Most of them are divorced within a few years and end up in a relationship with a fellow officer. Unfortunately infidelity is rampant among first responders.… | /r/Divorce_Men | 12/01/24 08:36 AM
Help? So, reading this is very similar to what I’m currently going through. My wife hid over 50k of debt from me and was an alcoholic. It was easy for her to fly under the radar since I work nights. All this came to light about a year ago. Even after two stints in rehab, several financial slip up, and countless lies over the last year, I’m still having a hard time letting go. It’s not easy to walk away from something or someone you’ve invested so much time, energy & love into. When you said you know n… | /r/Divorce_Men | 16/06/23 07:16 AM
Don't know if I should divorce my wifeDoes she have any past trauma that may be causing this? My wife (about to separate) just got out of rehab. Apparently she was drinking daily to deal with abandonment issues stemming from her parents. She also ran up a large debt behind my back which is the main cause of our impending separation. I wish I had paid better attention. Maybe I could have caught it earlier and tried to get her some help. But it’s definitely a tough thing to deal with, especially when there’s kids in the house. But she… | /r/Divorce_Men | 08/08/22 09:31 AM
Advice needed!!!I wanted to tell you, your comment about marriage not being something you have to endure has stuck with me. She ended up going to rehab, but at this point too much has been done to overcome the pain I feel. I told her tonight that I’m leaving. I just wanted to say thank you. Of all the advice I’ve received from friends, family, therapists, etc., this has stuck with me the most. It’s gonna be tough, but I’m content in my decision. Again, I appreciate you taking the time to type this. | /r/Divorce_Men | 26/07/22 06:20 AM
Advice needed!!!Luckily it’s all in her name. I keep a pretty good eye on my credit as I can lose my job if I don’t. I understand that if and when a divorce happens, we will split up our assets and debt. Luckily my house is paid off, so selling that would cover all of our debts together and still give each of us a down payment on a new house, if that’s the route we go. She’s agreed to go to inpatient therapy, at least for now. But even if she does go, I still think too much damage has been done. | /r/Divorce_Men | 27/06/22 03:20 AM
Advice needed!!!She claims it’s on “dumb stuff”, as she put it, like Amazon, Target, etc. Thing is, she rarely goes anywhere other than work, and I haven’t noticed a large number of packages getting delivered that would have raised suspicions, so I don’t know. At this point, I have a lot more questions, but I don’t want to ask them for two reasons. 1) I don’t think I would believe her, no matter what she says. She lied constantly throughout this ordeal until she knew she couldn’t anymore. 2) I’m to the point th… | /r/Divorce_Men | 27/06/22 02:25 AM
Advice needed!!!Yes, and actually makes pretty good money. We’ve kept our finances separate as it’s caused issues in the past. But she shouldn’t have any CC debt considering what she makes. We ran into this same issue about 7 years ago on a much smaller scale (about 5k). I told her then that if it happens again, I doubted that we would be able to make it through. | /r/Divorce_Men | 27/06/22 02:21 AM
