Don't screw the crew

Parenting is only as 'hard' as you make it. You can bust your ass every day being a parent, you can work hard to better yourself and the behaviour you model for your kids. It doesn't matter if you're the mother or the father. Or you can be a lazy, stupid son of a bitch and expect everyone to give you a pat on the back just because you tell them to. For what it's worth, the parents I think of as 'good' parents are the ones who worry most about whether they're good.

It's because it's a damn demanding field that they would rather not deal with due to the long hours and general conditions. Pull your head out of your arse you absolute lake trout. The suggestion that women don't do long hours or poor general conditions insults not just the women who DO do software for a career, ones with other MORE demanding fields (yes, there are harder jobs than yours, and yes women do them). You know who are more likely to be a nurse or doctor? I'd like to see you work a fem…

I don't like the title of this post, and I don't like most of these popular comments, especially the one saying women don't do IT because it's hard. But I also don't like the suggestion that this article is making. It's insulting to the countless successful females I've had the pleasure of working with in the software industry, who have had to face real discrimination and real effects of being in a male majority environment, to say that star wars jokes are the real issue. I've worked in software…

Jesus Christmas the comments in this thread. "Women do this, women want that, men are forced to do this." I think that parental leave works best when it considers the individual (s) desires and works with them. Note that in Australia parental leave is not inherently equal, and companies are not forced to offer equal paid leave for men and women. Is this policy (as summarised in the article) perfect, equal and flawless? No. But it is at least attempting to approach the issue of equality when it c…

Ah yes the enlightened animal kingdom! Or did you just mean that one documentary about penguins that God narrated? I could get on board with that. Let's all be penguins.

That's the thing about this. This graph represents a statistic, and if it is accurate, then I have absolutely no reason to disagree with the information. Your suggestion that I present an "alternative conclusion" is the issue. There are two conclusions that could be drawn from this information: Either there is insufficient data to present this data as statistically significant (ie, it's meaningless because the sample is too small) Or, the data implies there is a correlation between money spent o…

For us it wasn't about proving anything. By the time we were married officially it was abundantly clear to everyone that my partner and I were meant to be together. We just wanted to have our closest friends and family from all over the world join us and have a really nice time all together. We're both certainly the type to eschew traditional regimes, and I can absolutely see that marriage is frought with pitfalls for people who may have misconceptions about it. But for us, we observed quite a f…

I find that men and women are equally capable of sucking, as well as what you mentioned about nationality.

Because it's easy to interpret this statistic in many ways, one of which suits your preconception of what constitutes a healthy marriage.

I just want to point out that just because a couple spends $20000 on a wedding does not necessarily mean that it is because the woman "demands" it. The wedding my wife and I had cost that much, and we were both over the moon with every part of it. We planned it together, and I-we both had the power to veto parts that I didn't feel were suitable. We got married later than most and we're both professionals with decent earnings. This graph shows relation, not causation. Be careful how you interpret…
