The reason you get downvoted is because running is a worse way to lose weight(or slim down as you call it.) For the same amount of time spent, lifting will cause you to burn faaaar more calories than running. So unless you want to do a marathon or other long endurance type activities, lifting is all around better.

One of the best takeaways from the 4 Hour Work Week was: Never ever watch the news. At most, listen to the news on the radio while driving somewhere. Paying attention to the news is one of the largest wastes of time and energy possible. Anything worth knowing will filter it's way to you from people in your life. From there you can decide if you want to know more and look into it on your own.

I support adoption. But I also don't see the huge deal in being with a girl who has a kid, if you're into the whole kid thing. It seems like pretty much the same thing. Not yours genetically, but essentially yours in every other aspect.

Fuck getting promoted. Unless you make top top top tier of management, it's just more work without pay to compensate. Let's just say you start at X dollars, working X hours. I know people around here tend to love keto and/or low carb diets. I tend to follow one myself. My only issue is that I've read a lot of good things about juicing, but everything I can find seems like it is(understandably) really carb heavy. I would say the best option is to find a girl in the 5.5-7 area. Possibly one who doesn't have a high self esteem. Not anything crazy, just a girl who doesn't realize that she has attractive qualities. They tend to not be princess-y and appreciate a guy. If you see it in this context alpha typically refers to a male who is very dominant, powerful, charismatic. Tends to be confident, good with women. Can come off as douchey. Self serving. Beta is the average guy who is fairly nice, sometimes timid, particularly with ladies. They tend to be more willing to serve the needs of others before their own. Pretty much this. The first few years you'll be what is called an "outside" operator. You'll be walking around, checking gauges, checking lines, sort of menial stuff. Trade school graduate here. I have a process technology degree. It's mainly used to work in a refinery. I didn't go to work in a refinery, but out in the oilfield. I make a bit over 100k a year and work for less than 6 months a year. I was brainwashed that college was the only route until I saw a friend get my same degree/certificate.
