it's too hot to sleep If you tend to cuddle at night, you might want to lower the heating significantly and/or open the windows a bit — even if it's the middle of the winter. :)

I have no formal medical training, but from what I've read in various places online: Really, during a fast, the body goes into fasting state metabolism. IIRC the body can deal with fasts of up to 16 hours with no problem at all (except for possible food cravings from time to time). As long as he drinks water, he'll be fine.
