I can think of 3 white men off the top of my head who are married to Black women and adore them inside and out. Not saying some fetishization doesn’t occur, but I do think the white man/Black woman dynamic can be a healthy fit. Alexis Ohanian and Serena Williams come to mind. I’m white so if any Black women see this differently I’m open to hearing it.

Silence is powerful. Throws insecure people off balance. Talking, in many contexts, can be a form of validation seeking. The less you speak, the less validation it appears you need, which HVM/HVW appreciate but LVM/LVW can’t bear.

In my experience, being father to a daughter has zero correlation to sexism. The sexists remain sexists when they have daughters, they just alter their reasoning a little. The true HVM have never needed daughters to understand that women are people.

To me, her manner of speaking is part of her charm. Her unique elocution is a breath of fresh air. In today’s version of capitalistic society, charisma and guts (both of which Cardi has an extraordinary amount of) are of higher value than education or “intellect.” I’m educated but I’m much, much poorer than she is. Who is smarter by capitalistic standards? Definitely Cardi. That said, I do see your point.

I find most interpretations of the story to be very limited. The whole story is just a metaphor for the dawn of human consciousness, that moment where the human mind transcended that of animals. When I was younger I worked retail during a holiday season and it was 99% women doing all the Christmas shopping. If a man was in there buying something, it was one gift for his wife, or one random item he was buying for himself. When I relayed this story to my parents, my father scowled and said it wasn’t true...like, yeah Dad, when have you EVER helped with holiday preparations?

I’ve been working with a female therapist for about a year now. She’s okay. She’s quick to judge me about the issues I most need to talk about, which makes me feel very alone. Yes! I went to a male therapist after a long period of insisting on female-only doctors. Told myself that perhaps I should expand my horizons and give male practitioners a chance. What happened was that in every session he talked more about his life than I talked about mine. I played the role of therapist to him even though he was the one getting paid. He told me my suicidal ideations could not have been serious because the methods I planned to use were “boy methods” not “girl methods.” Uhhh yea…
