While it’s nice that men aren’t banished to the waiting room with a box of cigars anymore, sometimes I wonder if the pendulum hasn’t swung too far in the other direction. We are all- men and women- taught that fathers NEED to watch the birth of their children, to coach their wives through it even, and anything else is weak/ unsupportive. Now, my husband was great and he says the experience was incredible for him (although how many men would tell their wives otherwise?). I’m glad he was there, bu…

We keep the board set up in our living space and have an ongoing rivalry, with a lot of playful shit-talking. He probably initiates more often, but I usually kick his butt. He’s a brilliant man but he always misses the bishops. We were 25/47 at marriage, and together for 3 years beforehand.

I’m a whole generation younger than my husband. Honestly, I love it. I was really hesitant to pursue the relationship at first because of the age difference, but I finally gave in because I just liked him so much. We both bring different and complimentary things to the table. I get the benefits of his experience and successes, he gets to enjoy my comparative youth and energy. I never get tired of his company. We share our worldview. We played three games of chess before work this morning and tal…

I’m not trying to diss her husband. I said to remember that his heart was probably in the right place even though his delivery may not have been smooth.

It took me about 2 weeks. I used keto sweets like fudge and mouse (with Swerve sweetener instead of sugar) to help with the early cravings, and then they just vanished. You can find a million recipes online.

I said clumsy because it hurt her feelings so much. There is a way to have these conversations in a sensitive way that is still direct.

Another thing about the relationship aspect: I'll bet, since you're married with kids, that you could think of HUNDREDS of kind words, and gestures, and deeds, that your husband has given you. Think about them, and make a mental list of your favorites. Think about his good qualities and his character and try to remember WHY he's a catch and why you don't want him to leave. Do you think he said those things to hurt you? Would he EVER try to hurt you intentionally? Don't hesitate to tell him how y…

I also struggled with my weight after my 2nd baby and I have a few tips. The first one is to try to act confident, even though you feel self-conscious about your body. Confidence is sexy. DO NOT put yourself down or talk about your weight in a disparaging way. "Yay, I'm down 3 more pounds this week!" or, "these new jeans are getting loose already," are great things to say. Do your hair and makeup every day, maybe get a cute new hairstyle. Get some outfits that flatter your CURRENT size, so you d…

Personally, I just listen. My husband vents about work politics and hassles and there is absolutely nothing I can say except, "Wow, that sucks. I hear you." Even when I don't totally agree with him -based on the info he is giving- I just listen and emotionally support. I guess it would be different if he were venting every day, or if the problems were more serious, but... just let him vent to you once in awhile when he needs to. It's extremely cathartic. Sometimes we say things just to get them …

No. We've been through a lot together and I've never considered cheating. It feels good when someone hits on me, I suppose, but then I laugh about it with my SO. Mentally I've been "off the market" for nearly a decade. I can't even manage a harmless fib with my husband, so trying to pull of that kind of deceit is out of the question. And why would I? Nobody is worth jeopardizing the marriage and family we've built. As far as AWALT, I have a hard time believing that all or even most women would s…

I totally agree, and I'm so glad moms have a place to vent when it's hard and know that they're not alone or unusual. I wish there were more of the happy/easy stories out as a counterbalance, but I guess the 'easy' stories are never exciting.

I loved being pregnant, I had easy births and recovered quickly, I had no trouble breastfeeding. Babies are time consuming but only a subset are difficult (and those usually get easier over time.) All I see online about motherhood is the birth horror stories and people saying how hard and terrible babies are. I think those of us who have an easy time of it don't often speak up for whatever reason, maybe because we don't want to be insensitive to those who struggle. I don't know anyone who says i…

I tried that too but I felt like the ascorbic acid it's preserved with gave my food a weird metallic aftertaste. Maybe it's just me.

I stopped using my garlic press much because it's such a pain to clean out. I prefer a microplane now. If I need a lot of garlic I throw it in the food processor with kosher salt, butter, garden herbs, maybe lemon if it's for fish, etc.

There are some really good sugar substitutes out there. I made all kinds of keto friendly desserts at first so I didn't feel deprived, but eventually the craving for sweets just went away. It really was an addiction for me! I started with a 12 month old too, and now she's 20 months and she doesn't care for sweets (won't touch juice) and takes the bun off her own burgers and spits out French fries (we still hit the drive through sometimes). I'm hoping she won't grow up a carbaholic like I did.

Here's what 3 months of keto did for me You can imagine how happy this made my husband!

I just want to add that I went /r/keto last year to break my terrible sugar addiction. The first week is hard but then it got easier and my baby weight finally melted away. I didn't even count calories or work out, and after six weeks I had so much energy I could barely sit down (yay productivity!) I swear it cured my depression too. I tell everyone about it now.

I'm with you. At 6' tall and 160lbs I wore a size 2-4 and looked gaunt. At 180lbs I still have a flat tummy and narrow waist, size 8. When you're tall with broad shoulders it just carries differently.

It's the little things. When my husband is up against a deadline and working long hours, I just try to make home life as easy as possible. He's up early so I set up the coffee pot the night before, I pack him a nice lunch. I keep the house extra clean because messes stress him out. He loves to grill so I buy some nice steaks for the weekend so he has that to look forward to. I try to get the kids to bed a little earlier so we can watch Narcos or something. Sometimes he just wants to go to bed at…

Oftentimes a keen outsider sees things that people in the situation are blind to or in denial about. They have a different perspective and they're not emotionally involved.

That's a good point, but I have used this product before, and it really was only "lightly" numbing. It's not going to mask damage.

If you want to keep trying, they make a lightly numbing cream for anal sex that might be helpful. Add two glasses of wine and a lot of foreplay.

We're currently co-sleeping with our 1 yr old. Her crib is strapped against our bed with one side down and the mattresses at the same level, so she has her own space and we have ours. She snuggles up to breastfeed around 3 am and first thing in the morning. Sometimes daddy gets cuddles too that he cherishes. We really love it, although I'm sure I'll get better sleep after she's weaned. A healthy sex life can take effort, but we make it a priority. The baby goes to sleep about two hours before we…

Al-anon is the support group for friends and family of alcoholics. Check out a few meetings if you can. It's also possible that seeing you go to al-anon might give him more insight to how much this is affecting you. People that have been drinking moderately to heavily for a year or more often develop a chemical imbalance that makes them feel depressed when they stop. Anti depressants can be hugely helpful while kicking the habit.
