I know class is an issue. I think it is a greater issue than gender, race, sexuality, nationalism, and even religion (thought I'm not sure on that one.) Just because there were class inequalities does not mean that other inequalities did not exist within that framework. I think that we could definitely find a feminist out there that is spouting some extreme rhetoric that is not representative of reality but more of individual anger or pain. I also feel we could find the polar in this subreddit. …

Well I tend to believe that it went along with a fairly apparent tradition of not involving women in the governing of this country. My grandfather tended to think the same. He didn't refer to it as one family one vote though.

Who told you one family one vote was not about keeping women in check?

Well women have only been able to vote for the past 90 years. Thats one right. It's in the past but it did happen. They actually presented to the amendment 40 years before it was finally passed. For many years women were not allowed to be leaders in the most prominent religions in the world, continues to this day for some. Only 28 female CEO's in fortune 1000 companies though they are half the work force. No female president or vice president in in 230 years. I understand that there are some fem…

In response to concern troll. I am currently reading "A New Psychology of Men" by Levant and Pollack. It's just ok though. I am invested in this topic, as I have been for some time now before Reddit. The proving wrong statement was a poor choice of words. What I wanted to imply was that if he wants to inform me on why its not necessary to appreciate the historical context of female oppression when discussing gender equality I'm fine with that. I will happily hear any argument that is presented i…

If you have time could you let me know what some of the "concrete disadvantages" are? I know its not your responsibility to inform me but I honestly would like to know. I feel somewhat informed as I have done some research but I can always use more as this is an important topic to me. Thanks again for your time.

If you want to prove me wrong I am all for it. I in no way consider what I say to be the end all and be all of truth. I never said that. If I implied that I fucked up and I'm sorry. I will look over my posts and try and reflect on my tone. Actually now that I think about my question it was pretty rude. Its hard to respond to you when you jump down my throat so fast with insults. That being said it doesn't excuse my tone. Also, I've never considered myself a feminist for appreciating the oppressi…

Gotcha. I can appreciate that, and to be honest I felt the same way for a long time. The reason I push for this acknowledgement is because there doesn't seem to be much discourse about how men oppress women at all and how that might be influencing the decisions and behaviors of some of these feminists. I would also like to say that women who are fighting for women's rights are not all feminists, as I believe that men fighting for men's rights are not all misogynists. Unfortunately, I am not as c…

I would say historically much worse than currently. That being said, currently as well. I think its fair to answer them both separately, sure.

No chance that women have been oppressed worse than men? Can we curtail the insults for a minute please.

I'm sorry man, I honestly am not trying to insult anyone. I'm not. I honestly feel that there needs to be historical context taken into the development of most social movements. I am also not asking you to feel guilty. I'm just asking you to acknowledge it. That aside, why do you respond with such contempt so quickly? It's a forum to promote dialogue. Not a forum to control and scare off anyone who doesn't think the same exact way you think. You are trying to insult and intimidate me not to come…

Is this an anti-feminist forum or a mensrights forum? If you actually want to investigate the gender inequities in this country then you need appreciate and respect the full picture. Before I go any further, are you unwilling to acknowledge that women have been oppressed by men to a FAR GREATER extent than men by women?

You don't want to take an informed historical perspective for your position? Isn't that the most potentially dangerous thing humanity can do?

Again, no man in here is willing to take responsibility for the historical oppression of women that men of this world have propagated to this day. We ask the feminists to reflect on their actions and see that what their doing is demonizing and persecuting men, but there is no reflection or acknowledgment of our INCOMPARABLE systemic oppression and persecution of women. Do men not have to take responsibility for our hand in the oppression of women if we are to aggressively demand that women stop …

I don't know how you two feel. I am speculating. I should have made that more clear. I thought I had in my previous post, but I probably should have emphasized it more. A lot of what goes on on this site is speculation. I'm glad she is far from scarred, seriously. Look you wanted to know if what you said warranted your girlfriend getting pissed. I gave you plenty of reason why it might piss off a female who happens to be your girlfriend. If you don't want to agree with them, that's totally fine.…

I think that is the question you need to ask yourself. Why is talking like that to your girlfriend "being real?" I would assume its because you mean that if she hit you, you would "knock her the fuck out." I would have to say that that is "being you" not "being real." Your reaction is not the reality for everyone, for some obviously, but not all. I think it comes down to this, you don't express discomfort with the idea of punching your girlfriend in the face until she is unconscious. In fact, th…

I was referring to when you said "if you ever did that." Whether you intended to or not, your girlfriend started thinking about how you see her in comparison with this other girl. I think its obvious that you don't see them as the same, but she may think that you feel there is potential for that behavior in her. I'm kind of going out on a limb here but I bet your girlfriend doesn't like to think about how you might see similarities between her and an out of control, violent woman. This is just s…

I don't know if knocking a girl out is terribly funny. Have you ever seen a huge dude punch a women in the face? I have, its fucked up. Humor is important but I don't think this headline is very helpful for the mensrights subreddit. This subreddit is already on the brink of misogyny and joking about punching a girl out, especially your girlfriend, does not promote a very safe environment. I know its frustrating when a girl hits a person and does not expect to be treated the same but you flat out…

Oh boy, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to imply that you are weak. Let me clear that up, I don't think that. I think it is obvious that this is a community that caters to men. We have multiple posts on the lying and deceiving of women and one post about the completely batshit insane massive rapings in the Congo. That being said, I'm not sure a site that is dedicated to the male perspective is a bad thing, in fact I would say that it is a good thing. I don't want to generalize about the reddit populati…

How are you doing after all this? There were some fairly blunt and unsympathetic responses. I hope you were able to take them with a grain of salt. Let me know if you have any thoughts you'd like to bounce around. Good luck:)

Man is it hard not to read this subreddit. It's so full of excitement! In my personal life, in my professional life, and in my academic life I like to pride myself on someone that is paying attention to both sides of the gender equality scale. I have the privilege of working in the field of psychology which has to be going through one of the most monumental gender shifts in power of any field. It was dominated by men and now all of the training programs are filled with women. They will run the w…

Holy crap I'm sorry. I was truly not trying to insult anyone. I was just making observations I've been noticing about reddit. I am more than happy to have a civil discourse over this issue as I DO value it, I just feel I may have a different level of appreciation for it. I understand I made you angry but I feel reddit's purpose is to propagate a discussion of the issue. I was hoping to add to that, if I did not I apologize. Again, I welcome any information about this issue you feel will help me …

I'm not sure that these numbers are necessarily indicative of a growing appreciation for the rights of men. I think there are other considerations to be had here. One of the more monumental themes I see on reddit is male pain. I think there are a lot of men on this site that are struggling emotionally or relationally or both. There are a ton of comments on men being victimized in this country. I'm not saying that there isn't a concern for the demonizing of masculinity that does take place on a d…
