Because you can’t find a control group (a group of men who have never consumed any form of pornography). It would be like if everyone started smoking cigarettes at 8 years old. You need a group of subjects who have NEVER smoked in order to compare to the smoking group and see what’s different. That’s why we have so much evidence on the effects of smoking, but imagine if we didn’t and we just handed out cigarettes to any age kid who wanted to try them. Well, that’s pornography and other internet …

Imagine if decades ago we allowed children to have access to combustible tobacco products at 8 years old and then tried to study the effects of smoking. Researchers could try to find a control group from other countries. For example, in China pornography is illegal and heavily monitored. I’m sure men and women still cross the Great Firewall to use it but the rate of usage is waaaaaaay lower than in the west and I’m sure there are many men who have never used it. Then again it’s a different demog…

I think if the problem were men then women would still have children. Many women who want children will have one without a partner through surrogacy etc. The real issue is the cost. People today can’t afford to have children. They’re prolonging it or holding off completely. I took development economics in undergrad and we had a section on the fertility rate and the bad effects from it. Notably it creates a top heavy society where there aren’t enough people of working age to work and pay into soc…

I’ve been reading Ace by Angela Chen and she brings up the damages that sex positive feminism can have. She likens sex positive feminism as an inversion of a theory called “The Charmed Circle” by Gayle Rubin in 1984. The quest for a female sexuality free of male violence is replaced by the quest for a politically incorrect sexuality that transgresses movement standards. In other words the more transgressive an act is the more inherently liberating it is from old norms and old politics and the be…

People choose not to date smokers no one bats an eye. But porn? Well god forbid. It’s as if people can’t have preferences

Is it straight decriminalization across the board or is it like the Swedish model (selling sex is legal but buying sex is not)? I think something to keep in mind is that some people aren’t going to do something no matter how easy it is to access it. That’s why some people don’t go down to the corner store to buy cigarettes just because it’s there and they can now. The men that typically visit sex workers do it whether it is legal or not. What’s more important, though, is that you shouldn’t have …

You just know. You put out your feelers and take in stimuli. You get a gut feeling whether it’s women you’re befriending or men you’re thinking of dating. Listen to people’s behavior because people can tell you anything and do the complete opposite. Anyone can crap on you, manipulate you, use you, etc. So you get used to picking up tendencies of people like that to cut it off early. So how do you know if a HVM is really HV? They will show you. Not in the way a psychopath will if you’ve ever deal…

They said in some article all you have to do to get verified is upload a picture of yourself holding a paper that says pornhub or something ludicrous like that. What kind of verification is that? Imagine if Big Tobacco had played that card
