My situation is a little different, but overall positive .... for most of my kids' lives I have been a merchant mariner ... gone two (now three) weeks, home the other two (now three). When I'm home I am completely available to run them to and from school, practices, etc., and to hang out, cook, whatever. The downside, if you can call it that, is that I'm either at work or being dad. There is no in-between and no "me" time, really. I feel guilty if I take a couple days to spend with friends witho…

Take heart, brother. It's obvious you love your boys deeply. Do not take your foot off the gas on the coaching and after-school activities. Be as involved as you possibly can in ... all of it. Teacher conferences. Scouts. Sports. Birthdays. Holidays. Church, if you have one. Don't give up a minute of any of that. I'm two years out. My boys were 8 and 10, and the separation was very much not my preference nor my choice. I worried -- still worry -- about how this will affect them for the rest of t…

I knew you were in TX just from reading your story. So sorry man. I had many of the same problems regarding child support. I don't have an easy solution.
